Hi, that's the patch 1.c for AoE or 1.b for RoR for sure. If you want to play single player and save games, it's better to play the version without the patch - the version with the patch may crash on you, and it most often does when you're getting somewhere, which is Most Annoying.

Having read the other thread thru, I am assuming that if I uninstall and reinstall without the patch, I'll be OK? The problem will disappear?

It's easier to rename the patched game file and then to copy the original exe from your CD to the AoE folder. That way you can play the game with or without the patch.

Markant, if you "retrograde" your AoE, you won't be able to play online in the Zone.

For single player only it will work fine, though.

Oh, one more thingy.

I like to play at max. pop (200). In order to do that, I do the registry hack that's documented somewhere by Microsoft (I think it's in the patch readme). Then, I can play Random Map with up to SEVEN A. I. on Hard (but it's still no challenge, I just rush the nearby 3 A.I:, then wall in and stomp over the remaining ones. And the AI won't still go past 50 units - still, 7x50=350, which is almost double of what I can get ).
