AoEd and RoRd are two modified versions of Ykkrosh's GeniEd(1) that could cope with the *.dat file of these two games. More information could be found in AoEH forum(http://aoe.heavengames.com/cgi-bin/aoecgi/display.cgi?action=t&fn=4) or TD board(http://z13.invisionfree.com/Tribulation_Board/index.php?showforum=6).
Please approve it by Chritmas Day. :p
Known Issue:
Everytime you change to other program or windows when running AoEd/RoRd, a message "use of uninitialized value in numeric eq <==> at PERL2EXE_STORAGE/UI.pm line x" would appear. This problem had been existing even since the original version of GeniEd and can not be fixed. To avoid this issue, try not to tab to another program or window when running AoEd/RoRd. |

The sentence was in the short description, but now I moved it to the file description. (I don't think such line would be a good short description publicly) ;) |

This amazing utility allows you to edit the stats of every unit that's in the game using a custom made empires.dat file - HP, speed, range, attack, graphic, everything can be altered!
AoEd/RoRd extracts the empires.dat file into a readable text format, so you can easily make your changes. No Hex expierence is required for this at all! Once you're done doing your changes in the patches.txt, load the file in AoEd/RoRd and convert it to a genie.dat file. Then, rename it to empires.dat and copy it into your AoE data folder.
Instructions on how to edit it can be found in the TD forum and soon here on the AoEH boards as well.
Additional Comments:
Scenario_t_c has put a lot of effort into making this program. IMO it's the best utility ever made for this game. Don't miss it out while you're designing, it can change so many aspects of the game. A must have for everyone!

When Age of Empires first came out, the scenario editor blew most people anyway. Here was a game where you could build you own campaigns!
Then as newer real time strategy games came out, Age of Empires' scenario editor started showing its age. You couldn't rename units or edit their stats. You had to make do with what you were given and somehow there lacked those little touches that 'personalised' a custom campaign - customised characters.
Sure there were some map tricks and cool pieces of eye candy you could use but by Age of Empires' 5th birthday it seemed we had exhausted the editor. Everything that could be done had be done. How wrong we were.
Firstly, the language.dll file is decoded and all of a sudden we could rename our units.
The scenario_t_c released a the Enhanced Editor *.dat file. All of a sudden the Editor has be revitalised, reborn. Great eye candy was now available to everyone and the experienced designer could so things he had previously only dreamed of.
This is now the next step of the editor's rebirth and is just as groundbreaking and wonderful as before - the ability to change unit statistics. Now you can finally make that super axeman or that impregnable wall you had always wanted in scenarios.
Why have I written all this just to tell you something you probably knew already - that this is one of the greatest utilities ever made and should deserve a 6?
Simple, because this isn't the end. Let's hope by Age of Empires' 10th Birthday, we'll have even more to rave about. |

Finally! A utility that allows me to modify the stats of units or buildings to whatever I want! This is definitely a great tool! |

very nice post, thanks for the freewares
the one thing im disapointed in is it doesnt decompile and just patches values, so adding new values / units isnt possible unless i misunderstood
but very nice, is there any place to get the souce for this? |

i think it would be cool, but i don't understand it, i use genied2 to edit aoe 2, but how do i edit with this, since genied2 does not work with aoe 1? i tried to copy data to text, but i just got a folder called ged-data and a file called gedsetup, the ged-data folder had 3 files withen it and a folder, the file called patches had nothing in it, and the other 2 had data in them, the folder had a file called header, and it said not to edit it.... i'm sadly confused, and because i rarely come here, please email me, at lernerrobert@yahoo.com how to do this
note: if you don't want to email me, go ahead and say how it works here |
