Horses Template

Author File Description
Phill Phree You can now have as many of those cool black and white horses in your scenarios as you want by starting with this medium grass map and editing 'around' the horses (there are 16 in this template!). I made the template completely flat with no trees to give you a clean canvas to work on. Instructions for adding more horses are contained in the template instuctions. Enjoy!

A true classic of the Granary, this template allows you to have wild horses in your scenarios. These horses were part of the beta version of Age of Empires, but were but off from the final release. Along with the Trade Workshop (and an handful of Gaia units), wild horses are the few beta units which can still be "recovered" and used in scenario design. They survived till nowadays thanks to Imhotep, who made this fantastic template back in 1998.

Unfortunately, wild horses come to a practice use only with AoE. If you are designing with RoR, you will see a bug: when a horse moves, it disappears for a while. If you want to include horses in RoR scenarios, find a way to lock them to the ground so that they can't move. Horses disappear both in AoE and RoR once killed, giving no food. This can't be fixed, and also reveals another curiosity: these animals can't be killed by any unit except Villagers (and Catapults too, but only in "attack ground" mode)

AOE_mapper_newb How do I put in templates?
McCloudDash91 download any template you want, then simply extract it into your "Scenarios" folder of your AoE directory. A template is basically just a blank level which includes some [previously] unavailable units that you can use and even clone.

Dean McCullough All of these templates are now useless thanks to the new editor.

Firstly, the horse contains numerous glitches (justifying why it was dropped from the main game). Secondly, the template is no longer required thanks to modern tools (such as the composite editor).

Additional Comments:
Data editing or using the composite editor pretty much replaces the need for such templates.

Also, the majority of existing templates seem to be for one map size rather than covering all sizes.
