Composite Editor 0.9 BETA
For AoE and RoR
Jun 2 2009

All units unlocked from the grid, can be freely overlapped, and can be placed anywhere to the very edge of the map. More features listed inside. (Download to see)

No modding required to play anything produced with the Composite Editor.

This update adds files with features requested in the "Research Composite Editor Upgrade" thread in the forum. Also, a help was added. Once you unzip the package you'll notice a file named "Help.html" and it gives access to some useful information in an organized way. It should work with any browser.

Installation
1. If you haven't already done so, make a back up copy your empires.dat (for AoE: the one in the folder "data"; for RoR: the one in the folder "data2")
2. Overwrite empires.dat with the replacement you choose.
3. Enjoy! (Instructions for how to enjoy the Composite Editor experience fully can be accessed through help.html.)
4. Restore original empires.dat for playing.

Features: Access a full list of features through help.html.

Purpose Statement
The purpose of Composite Editor is to provide designers of Age of Empires and Rise of Rome Expansion scenarios a tool to unlock the restrictions from the games' Scenario Builders, while the scenarios edited using Composite Editor are compatible with the original, unmodified ("vanilla") game. This allows the designer to ship the scenario or campaign without having to include a mod. Any feature that requires installing a mod to work is outside the scope of Composite Editor.

FAQ
Q: Is this something which changes some game files, so you can make pretty maps?
A: Yeppers. It replaces one of the files (not sure what, I'm a caveman) and lets you place objects like buildings and GAIA nature objects without grid restrictions. So, you can make thicker forests, thicker cities, more realistic, cool-looking terrain (although regardless of what you make, a 2D game's graphics will not be all that realistic), etc.

Q: Also, do I need this to play maps made via this tool?
A: Nope. Any map made with an enchanced editor can be played by any old AoE program. I could buy a new disc from a store, install it for the first time, and play a scenario made with this editor as if it came with the disc.

This IS the Holy Grail of AoE and it makes Trisolo's Enhanced Editor almost completely obsolete.

If you see this, DOWNLOAD IT IMMEDIATELY!
Kelcin Alreaddy got it ;).
How many Holy Grails do we have in all?
This is cool!
I'd like to backup TailSpray, in saying that this is a must download.

Kelcin
MrCheeze This makes 2.

It doesn't make the Enhanced Editor obsolete, it just adds on to it.
Kelcin Yep!

Who's wants to make the first n00bish scenario with this?
I can do it if no one else wants to ;).

MrCheeze Why no Gaia units in RoR? Shouldn't the patches be the same as in AoE?

Yeah, but it will take a while because I have to carefully go through civ 0 units text file to make sure I got all the units and unlock all the buildings.

12/15/08: RoR Gaia units unlocked.
12/16/08: @TailSpray: I got rid of the wrong sounds a while ago.
12/19/08: Thanks Mapppp (Jimmy2) for review! V

The original EE's flexibility and options gave it a 5. This is the same thing, but with more ways of placing objects.

The major part is that many buildings no longer lock to the grid. This is extremely useful in designing.

Additional Comments:
You should download, as this is pretty much the updated version of the EE.
