A mod for AoE/RoR that allows to recreate (with the basic game editor, without modding work) and play large ancient battles like in a "figurines wargame" with low speed : human player has the possibility to take time for tactical reflexion
The speed of the game may be /10, and human player may pause the game. During pause time, he keeps the entire control of scrolling and may give also orders to units for move or combat, and he may constitute/disperse formations on the map.
4 great battles are at first provided. These battles are : Raphia (Lagide army Vs Seleucide army), Pharsale (Caesar Vs Pompee), Gaugamela (Alexander the Great Vs Darius III) and Issus (Alexander the Great Vs Darius III)
Next battles will be Battle of Granicus and battle of Ipsos
Other historical battles will coming soon
Forum thread (AoE/RoR Heaven) of the mod is here :
http://aoe.heavengames.com/cgi-bin/aoecgi/display.cgi?action=ct&f=17,6363,,10
Next version will be 3.0 with some minor additional things
Thanks for feedback to improve the MOD. I hope designers will create with this mod a lot of historical ancient battles for the AoE/RoR community. Due to the fact the units of oob are generic types, classes and levels, all armies of Ancient Ages may be builded : Macedonian, Persian, Roman, Carthagian, classic greeks, Hittites, Egyptian, barbarian, etc
All critics, observations, suggestions, asking for improvement, etc will be considered. Same if some users want to play precise historical battles : just ask for and they will be builded

This is an interesting mod as it turns your Age of Empires game into something that can host large scale "war games". The mod comes with support for 1280x1024 resolution and 4 scenarios that showcase large historical battles.
The mod also comes with a utility to slow down the speed, and it is highly recommended that you use it to play the mod. The number of units on the battlefield are too large to reasonably deal with. Plus doing so will cause lag as hundreds of units move around the screen.
The installation process is a manual process, but it isn't difficult to figure out where the files go. The mod comes with a lengthy and detailed guide, translated from French.
Unfortunately, the mod will give you everything in French (units names, even the menu). Its not a major problem as the purpose of the mod is to replicate large scale wars and/or mini figure war games.
Additional Comments:
The mod is based on a very interesting idea and is worth checking out if large scale historic battles and/or mini figure war games interest you. As stated above, you will need to be aware that the mod is in French.

Note - I could not open the zip via Windows 8.1 built-in WinZip support (reported corrupt zip). I used WinRar to open the contents without any problems.
