Meh. Probably shouldn't have betted everything on the British.

The lancer seems to be the equivalent of the catphract in AoK. Is it effective against musketeers?

This screenshot is amazing. Really beautiful.

I wonder if the Spanish royal guard units change their names, like with the British redcoats and the French gendarmes and voltigeurs.

i think the spainish(sp?) sound like a very strong civ because
shipments "can change the whole course of the game" and the spainish could be the ones to do that.

Has IGN reviewed any other civs besides the French and Spainish

I'm confused about Rodeleros. They seem to essentially play the role of pikemen. Since they're fast and have sword/shield shouldn't they be effective against the earlier base inf. (arquebusiers?) in H2H combat?

I think that IGN are copycatting smacktards and trying to step in on teh HG territory

They sound pretty nice. I can't wait to get my hands on some Galleons and War Dogs. Area-healing for priests I like. I'm also wondering why they were talking almost as if they were ES there ("We wanted the Galleon to be like a heavy transport", etc).

Nothing too out of the ordinary, a good starting civ I'd think. And yeah, that new image is beautiful.

ES wrote it, according to the title.

Quoted from IGN:

The conquistadors are coming.

But IGN's talking up until the horizontal rule.

They sound decent. The HC bonus will definitely be helpful.

It's interesting that the article mentioned the Spanish as being the "civ for beginners", whereas Turks and English are "odd civs".

To me, the way the Turks get auto-spawning vils make it the ideal civ for beginners, because less micromanagement is required to keep the town center on a constant production.

I got the impression that the Spanish is a well balenced civ that is well suited for beginners, but under the conrol of a vetren gamer who be deadly. The Spanish gain a unique flexablity due to their increased homecity shipments, they can utilize many different tactics making them a powerhouse like the British

Yeah I take back what I said. The HC bonus just seemed weak at first, but I guess 33% more can make a great bonus since they can choose military or economy.

"This country may not be as vocal a player on the world stage as it was while plundering the Caribbean and the New World, but don't let that fool you, they're a force to be reckoned with."

Didn't the Spanish Hapsburgs play a big role in Europe (lasted around 2 centuries)? I don't understand what they're saying here.

"Lancer is a cavalry that can defeat infantry"

If this includes musketeers then this will take the doppelsoldners place as my favorite UU.

posted 08-23-05 01:17 AM EDT (US)     21 / 38
They seem pretty good to me, very flexible and very nice UUs, Rodeleros are nearly as fast as heavy cavalry and lancers countering infantry seems such an advantage over other civs to be afraid of!

Rodeleros+Lancers combo looks pretty good

Almost as good as Cassadors+Dragoons

Nice finding!
