During the HG community chat day, Bigdog was asked if the tools used to create the game will be shipped on the CD. Bigdog said something that sounded like they won't.
10. Will there be any support for the mod community by providing tools and editors to see what people can create using the new game engine?
We aren't in the business of making game engines that players can use to develop their own games. We are making a particular game. However, we recognize that the mod community increasingly prolongs the life of a game, so we do what we can to make it easier for them. We ship all of our tools (as rough as some of them may be) on the CD, and we don't do a lot of to prevent editing of the game data, as long as it can't be used for cheating online.
So I'm just wondering, which one is true?

I'll with the general ES....because I want to make scenarios/campaigns for AoE3.
He meant that we ship the scenario editor and tools like that, but not our Max exporter or other tools that are plug-ins to commercial products.

So, DeathShrimp, How are we going to be able to make new model mods? The models are in .GR2, which is a format WE CAN'T CREATE without Granny 3D. And i would suspect that none of us (as a comunity) has the money to buy it. So how exactly will we be able to create new models? (As some mod projects will undoubtly require it. For example: the Lord of the Rings mod for AOM required new models, so did the Star Wars mod)

Most likely answer: You just aren't going to be able to - all games have technical limits (since the developers don't yet have infinite time and money to make them with), and this is one of them. You have to work within those limits - or else make mods for a different game; or don't make mods at all, and create your own game or CG movie or whatever - that can be just as fun and useful, and it reduces the frustrations of having to work within someone else's inflexible framework .

This is sad ... It turns out that it was just an advertisement lie . I wouldn't have expected that from ES.
