lp, on ageofempires3 is says that they are slow, but on your stats page it shows them as being faster than longbows, muskets etc.

Who's right?

Id use them as defending or sneaking behind the enemy.

I would think they'd be better up-front fighters while the uhlan cav did the sneaking.

The thing with skirmishers is they either completely own the enemy army or they get completely owned themseleves.

Skirmishers totally wipe the floor with most infantry however the second a few cavalry or cannons or grenadiers appear, skirmishers drop like flies.

I predict fast Fortress strategies to be very popular in AoE3 because of this, you really don't wanna get stuck in Colonial for too long.

wait Uhlan and Doppelsoldner would own skirms scince Uhlans counter counter infaltry.

skirmishers arent worse then grenadiers, and a line halbs or pikes in front of them protects them enough, but it is true, they have high attack but low HP

Dragoons would own the uhlans though, wouldn't they?

Well there are plenty of units that would decimate skirmishers, but skirmishers destroy plenty of units themselves, thus, they're a good solid unit since what they're good against is infantry and there's lots of infantry. Just requires a bit of micro.

The thing is even in the presence of other units any player would just target the skirmishers first since they die so fast. If I saw a group of skirmishers and cavalry coming at me you can bet the skirmishers are gonna get killed long before their cavalry can kill anything.

Skirmishers are a very risky unit.

risky yes, but everyone who plays the dutch has to make them at least in beginning. and you need cavalry to counter them as they walk faster then most other infantry

Everything in this game is counterable so there is nothing called as ownage in this game

For the dutch I think skirms+ruyters are gonna be a deadly combo: they counter almost everything

skirms counter infantry, but are weak to cavalry
ruyters counter cavalry and light inf., but are weak against pikes etc.
on top of that, ruyters are strong against cannons

So you can throw almost anything at that combo and it'll (in most cases) win!

Edit: xcuse me, but you would also need hussars to counter light inf+cannons

The same may be true with cacadores + dragoons, although you might want a meatshield with that.
