Topic Subject: How to counter the Iroquois?

I play as the French and am a major newb. It seems that the Iroquois are a very popular civ, and I'm finding my Cav and Light Infantry eaten up by their Tomahawk folks and some sort of riflemen. I usually play 10-min treaty or such and when the treaty's over there's an Iroquois army ready to jump into my TC and smash stuff up.

Any tips?

Ha, thanks for the reply. I see all the stuff in the strategy section. This thread is redundant.
