I think every mercenary has its counterpart.

Black rider= Heavy set draggon
Hackapell= uhlan
Mameluke= none (axe rider?)
Manchu= cavalry archer
Stradiot= Hussar
Corsair= rodelero
Highlander= musketeer
Landesknecht= halberdier
Ronin= doppelsoldner
Swiss Pikeman= war wagon (jkjk lol pikeman)
Jaeger= skirmisher
Spahi= cuirassier
Privateer= caravel

there is argument that cuir= mameluke but until sum1 can prove that to me cuir= spahi

Jaeger = Skrimisher

Other than that, I think you got it. However, it seems like the Mameluke doesn't have a real counterpart.

Landsknecht = Dopplesoldner.

Spahi = Cuirassier.

Ronin and Mamelukes don't have counterparts.

i think ronin do to dopps

they both have splash, lots of health, x3 bonus vs cavalry

landes only x2 to cav, not as much health, not enough seige, and no splash

halberds on the other hand are slow, good regualr attack (x2 to cav) good seige and good HP, but not REAL BIG (e.g. dopps)

i will add the spahi tho

I thought Mameluke = Cuirassier. Cuirs don't regenerate, although then again, they don't have 1500 hitpoints either.

Despite the similarity in equiptment and historical service,

Doppelsoldner = Ronin (splash damage, x3 vs cav, stronger)
Halberdier = Landsknect (no splash damage, x2, weaker)

is how they associate in the game.

Alright, I'll give you the Ronin = Dopplesoldner and Landsknecht = Halberdier.

But Spahi are the merc version of Cuirassiers. Their hitpoints are closer, and they have area damage. The regeneration is something extra tacked on (although I'd gladly give up said regeneration for the ability to TRAIN Spahi for a crapload of resources in game).
Mamelukes have no area damage at all and have a crapload of hitpoints, way beyond that of an Imperial Cuirassier.

I like to think of Ronin Saumurai as Dopps on crack.

I love watching those flying kicks they do, awesome, lol.

mameluke=curiassier because lots of hp but crap damage.

spahi is not a merc, its a unit ottmans get only from shipments.

posted 04-09-06 12:33 PM EDT (US)     18 / 27
Mameluk has high hit points, low damage, and no splash. No other unit shares the same characteristics.

i would consider a Spahi a mercenary because it comes from the HC costing resources like all other mercs. Cuirs have at least better attack and splash but not nearly enuff HP. Lancer isnt a mameluke because lancers dont have that TON of health and mamelukes dont get a bonus...
Ronin = Dopps

mamelukes is like axe raider.... just a bit different setup to dog soldiers -> more hp, less att

"mameluke = a very uber cav archer"

how? they rnt ranged, mamlukes and cav archers are WAAAAAAAAAAY different, i dont use mamluks to counter ruyters and goons and cuirs...

I lyk ultimitsu's idea about the axe riders tho... but i sorta cinsider dog soldiers as a sort of merc

im not so sure about the dog soldier = lancer...
it seems good

Dog soldier :very good HP,great attack and fast (raiding)
Lancer: ok HP, attack with extreme bonus to inf. and not as fast as dog soldier

Mamelukes i think is confirmed to have no counterpart
