no,don't go for ports man.pick french, spain, ottoman or dutch.ports suck except for in hands of experienced players. play one of the top 4,ports are not noob friendly u will begin on a losing note my friend. whereas these 4 civs can get u lots of wins.if u play ports u will have to be a master turtler. only play ports if u love defense. if u like strong offense go ottomans. if u want balance go dutch or french. if u like pure ff go spain.

Yeah man as much as I would love to see more port players like myself, they're not n00b friendly at all. Don't go with ottoman. It'll seem easy at first and you'll get lots of wins doing a janis rush, but soon you'll just get beaten every time because its so predictable, and u wont be able to play anything else.
Start with British, french of spanish, those are the easiest to start with and settle into.

There are lots of other ways to win with ottoman than janz rush,so if he likes the civ why not.but on ce u get habituated to ottomans its a problem to switch to other civs as u will often forget to produce villies midgame.

It all depends on how your strategy plays out. If its rushing, Otto may be best, unless your against a HUGE anti HI civ. If Boom with good military, then brit or Dutch. If its turtle, etc.
Telling people to give you their opinion is kinda...unreliable. Everyones gonna say the civ they good at. So analize your strategy (Boom, Rush, Turtle, combo, turtle boom, etc.) Then pick the civ that seems to compliment it the best.
Spain is supposed to be easy...I find it a little challanging to counter gends. They RIP APART my imperial tercios and espadas.
British are quite flexible, but their late game military isnt as good as other civs.
France is also flexible because Gendarmes and Voltiguers are good together (Gendarmes handle LI, Art. and Heavy cav Voltiguer takes HI and ranged cav).
Dutch are good booming and they're really good midgame, but in lategame their 50 set. limit isn't gonna be as good as other civs, even with banks.
Ports are good turtlers and naval controlers. Good for water maps.
Russia's econ starts slow, but as you get more sets, you can boom or turtle as you see fit. Rushing probably isnt too good unless the enemy only has some weak units.
Germany is all around, except for the fact that the only good anti-cav units are atleast 125 coin...
Ottos can rush and boom well. Unless you find a ranged, non artillery solution to skrms/archers, your early military may be kinda....dead and/or dying.
Natives are not that good during early, but lategame with 25 villies on dances they preatty potent.
China is kinda like otto and russia mixed into one.
India is like britain and france, cept with T3h Ub3r P0w3rful dragoons and hussars on stimulants...
Japan is balanced, sorta like britain (cept with shrines stead of spawning sets.)
This is all IMO, as i play all the civs.

If you don't want to follow the herd... if you want to stand out as the cool, edgy guy, play Ports.
Everyone HATES losing to the Ports.

I'll give you one piece of advice. Dont listen to Starviper. half of what he said was retarded. anyway play japan. they are fairly basic.
