A Guide to Great Plains
By CookieCrisp13

It seems every no rush player enjoys the often-seen Great Plains map, but what about Supremacy? A bit rarer with the addition of several thousand Asian maps surrounded by water!

General Description

Players in 1v1 each start out next to a trading post route and site respectively. One herd of 4 bison, and rarely, a second herd within TC sight is visible. The bottom player will have a Cheyenne trading post to his left while the top player will have a Comanche trading post to his left.

Map Layout

1v1:

Team:

FFA:

Trading Post description

The trade route will always have three posts on it, one to each player, and one in the center to fight over. Oftentimes Ottoman players will send their explorer to the center route to build on it first.

There are always a decent amount of trading posts to claim on this map, eight for 1v1, and nine for (I believe) every other player limit. Comanche and Cheyenne can be found, both cavalry units for food and wood. In a standard Great Plains 2v2 map, the Cheyenne and Comanche.

Treasures

The common treasures for this map includes, but is not limited to the following treasures (sorted by toughness to acquire). I will be more than happy to add in the numerous ones I am sure to have missed!

Level 1 (generally found near the player’s base)
Unguarded
10-50 coin

1x Coyote
30-40 food

Level 2 (generally found in the center and sides of the map, will do a decent amount on your explorer if not creeping)
2-3x Wolf
60-90 food/xp

2x Black Bear
70-90 food

3x Wolf
Tomohawk warrior

1x Pistolero (2x Pistolero)
Native Scout (2 Native Scouts)

1x Renegado, 1x Pistolero
Cherokee Rifleman

2x Renegado
80 food/95 wood

2x Grizzly Bear
80 wood

1x Outlaw Comanchero, 2x Wolf
140 food

1x Comanchero, 1x Pistolero
2 sheep

Level 3 (generally found at the sides and sometimes in the middle of the map, will require several crack shots and/or excessive creeping to acquire)
4x Grizzly Bear
Courier des Bois

4x Cougars
2 stray dogies ( cows )

5x Wolf
Villager

3-5x Comancheros
300-600 xp

5x Cougars
Warchief Hitpoints +40%

4x Wolf
Warchief Hitpoints +20%
-----------------------------------------------------
Resources

Coin
You will start with two silver mines (2000 coin each) on opposite sides of your town center, and the rest of the mines will either be common in the center or side of the map. (I find my opponent has all the mines)
Food
Hunting and herding can be rare and unforgiving on this map, as your second hunt can be far from your tc, most likely towards the center of the map or north. You start with 4 bison, and can get an additional 12 from the Cheyenne trading post.
Wood
Wood is scarce in the center of the map but plentiful on the sides. You will start with a few trees, but don’t depend on much more.

Nice work CookieCrisp13, I see how you took advantage of pictures and images as well as proper text formatting and correct grammar to improve the overall credibility and quality of your guide, thus making it more informative and attractive to the reader!

That's what you meant to say, right Mac?

nice job.... pretty useful.

"You will start with two silver mines (2000 coin each) on opposite sides of your town center, and the rest of the mines will either be common in the center or side of the map. (I find my opponent has all the mines)"

that means i got unlucky in a recent game... only had 1 mine and the center of map was covered by enemy blockhouses

Nice write up cookie. Will help many vanilla players since its the most commonly used map in vanilla.

I like it, does this mean a rush to make map guides for points with the mods?

'german native rush' is a dead link

ohh kiv, i wish i could have seen what he wrote first, and if you had to edit a whole post, why don't you just ban this ass, honestly?

Nice guide. Even though it's used mostly in vanilla, Great Plains is still a nice map.

Nice guide. I pretty much knew all of this by now, since so many people play GP on 'nilla. Still great for newcomers

Sometimes you don't even stat with 2 mines. I find that TERRIBLY annoying...

Also you missed these (on vanilla I know definitely of):

2x Outlaw Pistelero
135 Wood

1x Outlaw Comanchero
1x Outlaw Pistelero
2 sheep

4x Cougars
2 stray dogies ( cows )

There is no 135 wood treasure for TAD on GP, it got nerfed because it is too easy to get.

Aside from the treasures being worth more on vanilla there are a lot of easy guardians like 2 coyote.
posted 11-13-08 05:55 PM EDT (US)     16 / 22
It got nerfed to I believe 90 or something?
posted 11-13-08 06:25 PM EDT (US)     17 / 22
Yeah, it got nerfed to 95 wood, it was quite a steal before

The 135 wood treasure has 3 pistoleros; not 2, and is found on Patagonia and Araucania from what I know (both big treasure maps).

Only one correction so far:

"5x Wolf
Villager"

It is actually 5 coyotes (which have 80 HP instead of 115), like this:

5x coyote
Villager

Good Guide Otherwise!

The 135 treasure is also found on G. Plains. Idk if they changed it in TAD but on Vanilla it only has 2 pistoleros.
