Are trains always spoken of as if they're feminine in the same way ships are?

because in Nebraska I saw an absolutely monstrous steam engine on display (one of these babies) and let me tell you, there was nothing feminine about it. It was the most montrous, most impressive, most manly machine I have ever seen. Seriously, it's hard to get a sense of scale from the pictures, but consider that the wheels are about as tall as a grown man).

I just wish they still used them because that would be so bad ass. :/
