So the mods can be mean and laugh at us.

Have the archives been archived yet?

This month I have mostly been playing Zelda Breath of the Wild
Steam - Maffia GFWL - Maffia01 YouTube - HGMaffia Twitter - @HGMaffia
Age of Empires 3 Heaven Seraph

What is this life if, full of care, We have no time to stand and stare.

Probably just to stop newer forumers bumping a four year old thread cos they wanted to make one but studiously searched for any previous on the same subject so they don't get shouted at for replicating threads

Kiv, why did you say "/thread" if you didn't close the thread?

Yeah, /thread doesn't work so well when you actually have the power to close threads.

Also, maybe there should be a posting limit like after 100 posts or whatever you can necro threads. That would solve the problem but still allow for hilarious bumping when absolutely nessesary.

Not one now, to mock your own grinning?

I think it somehow helps with storage space. Our servers have been practically full for years now.

well see sometimes i would like to bump a thread that needs to be bumped because the discussion is relevant again, and other times it would be hilarious to bump a bunch of old topics, so basically i don't like that threads are archived.

especially b/c it only takes like one month for it to happen

that makes complete sense according to hg logic

All active forums/threads take up quite a bit of space, and when they are archived they are compressed - kind of like zipping a file.

FYI storage space is almost as cheap as bandwidth nowadays.

HG can have a terabyte off my hard drive to lift the archivalizitation, or whatever. How much space can a thread in plain text possibly occupy?

Oohh, perfect topic for forum drama: HG's supposedly dreadful financial situation.

This belongs in another thread but whatevs it always makes me giggle when people talk about the CEO of heavengames as if it's a proper business and soccy goes to his CEO office where he does CEO things and has meetings with his COO and MDs etc

Some of the ads are truly annoying, but the other day I had this window open and a completely different window, and the ad space for HG showed a cool ad for 3D object imaging/reconstruction software using lasers. I clicked on it and didn't get computer AIDS. Google Ads cross-pollinating?

I think a more important and expensive upgrade would be better forum software, not server space. And apparently they are working on this already. No dates or details, but it's supposedly on the radar.

Honestly, I would be surprised if every post ever made on any heavengames site took up more than 1 gb.

Every archived thread is actually archived as a bitmap so it's probably more than 1 gb

I thought it was archived as a wave file of spineman reading the thread in a falsetto. The forum software then has to use Dragon Naturally Speaking (tm) to transcribe the thread when you click on it.
