There is good news coming out of AgeComm today about the fate of ESO and ESO2. It appears that even after Ensemble Studios closes, the online gaming scene will remain intact. Here is the direct quote:

Some players have expressed anxiety over the future of Ensemble Studios and the ESO online service that keeps our games running.You don't need to worry though.

The ESO matchmaking service for Age of Mythology and Age of Empires 3 and the expansion packs will continue to be operated and be supported after Ensemble closes its doors.

Though we may be losing ES as a company, at least we will still be able to play their great games online!

Nice to have some confirmation, but the patch of Age Sanctuary won't do any good unless microsoft agrees to add it (Having the population separated again will destroy ESO's population).

The Gods have left us, therefore making the old world crumble and turn into ashes...

But as the gods return, from the ashes of the old world, shall rise a more beautiful and powerful new world, and life will begin once more, if they hadn't closed...dang you ES.

You can still play AoE 2 on IGZ, they get 1K and above people there.

Anyway, I was pretty sure they weren't going to close one of the greatest game ever's online server, but a confirmation is definitely reassuring.
