  • Age of Mythology 2

___________________________________________________________
___________________________________________________________

MAIN CHANGES AoM->AoM2

  • Name Ideas:
    -AoM2
    -AoM2: Age of the Underworld
    -AoM2: Global Mythos
    -AoM2: Age of Polythesism
    -AoM2: Age of Legends
    -AoM2: Pangaea
    -AoM2: Realm of the Gods

  • Settlement idea stays. This is unique to the AoM series and defines AoM strategy.
  • Each Pantheon has thier own "Realm of the Gods", from which myth units and myth technologies can be shipped. (Favor is now replacing EXP in AoE3). Myth units and technologies are a lot more rare and powerful in general.
  • Major Hero: A hero for a specific RoG that can be slightly strenghtened/customised by the player. The Sprite, the weapon, the armor and the abilities of the major heroes can be changed. New items can be unlocked with higher RoG levels. This hero is the only one that can pick up relics, and is generally more powerful than most soldiers in its age. (Similar to the AoE3 Explorer)
  • Lots of New Unique Civilisations from around the Globe.
  • Drop Sites have been dropped, like in AoE3.
  • Graphics, obviously

CAMPAIGN IDEAS

  • The campaign takes place in Pangaea, back when the Titans ruled the Earth. Similar to the original AoM campaign, followers of each pantheon bring forth revolution, favoring their gods against the Titans.
  • A disruption occurs amongst the pantheons. Main characters from each civilisation are taken to their underworld, where they must fight for their pantheon. The underworld can terramorph into greenery, ice, etc. This would fit for HC shipments and skirmish games as well.
  • AoK Style Campaign, including sub-campaigns such as:
-Julius Caeser: Conquer the Barbarian Tribes.
-Arkantos and Theris: Prequel to the original AoM Campaign.

Any information/ideas anyone?

Q: What do you think about the "Realm of the Gods" idea?
Q: What other MAIN CHANGES should happen between AoM and AoM2?

------------------------------------------------------------

Speculation/Suggestions greatly appreciated.

I've taken over Shala's spot on this thread I suppose, with his resignation from HG, so I'll be the bridge between the old thread and Future ES Games Forum ideas and the new ones. I've added two new civs to the original design, the Mongols and the Carthaginians, and replaced the Ainu with Koreans.

Hey, Sky. It's been a while, but I think you should link this seperately, like how other people have done different AOM2 designs, just change the names of the people I guess.

I don't know the specific name of the Mongol RoG, but it is known as the Upperworld.

On the Campaign: I like the idea of setting the campaign in Pangaea, eliminating the otherwise transcontinental transportation. An idea would be a war between the various cultures which is based on two gods fighting, the end result of this war being that the gods grow sick of one another and push apart the continents so their followers don't have to mingle.
Ideas for sides in the Pangaea: Civil War campaign:
Side 1:
Greek
Roman
Slavic
Celtic
Norse
Egyptian
Carthiginian

Side 2:
Persian
Mayan
Incan
Tibetan
Koreans
Chinese
Zulu
Mongol

The first half of the campaign could be someone from one of the sides of the civil war traveling around to his allies, trying to build up an army to attack the other side. The second half could be fighting the other side and discovering the reason behind the civil war(two gods fighting each other).

I think the whole Pangaea thing would kick-ass. Anyway, add the Polynesians to the 2nd side, because I'm designing them. But I need help with some stuff.

Oh yeah, and the Mayans should probably be the Olmecs

If you need any help with the Polynesians, I could do that, because I designed a Fillipino civ.

I've decided to replace the Ainu with the Koreans, as I think the Ainu, although very unique and with a good mythology, were not as game-play oriented as the Koreans. I'll hear debate on this and it was a tough decision, but I don't think we should go overboard on the number of civilizations.

Man, making civs is a pain. My Polynesians should be done tomorrow night though. I don't want to work on them any more for right now.

i think that making a game with mitology is more easy that make a game with real history.. but there is a big problem.. people like reality i think that's the reason why aom wasn't popular than Age of Empires II: The Conquerors

Overall I don't think that historical is much more popular, but Age of Empires got its name cause at the time almost all RTS were Sci-fi (Dune) or fantasy (Warcraft). So many Age fans were turned off because AoM moved away from the basis of the series. A key point is to never alienate your fanbase, make gradual changes to brign in new fans.

AOM was very historical. Even the Atlanteans had units based on the Romans and myth units based on the Greeks. Although the gods, myth units and heroes don't exactly exist as such, they were worshipped by the human units that you control, which certainly did exist.

I like history more than mythology, but AOM is my favourite of the series.

How about adding the Hebrews in? That would be unique if nothing else. One God, no minor ones? that would be interesting!

Nice ideas, but I really do prefer the idea of a remade AoEI.

The word "Mythology" in the title might also offend Jews.

Trust me, when a Hebrew civilization was designed, it was flamed, although it was alright.

I saw the Hebrew thread, and it was alright as a civ, but very unlike the Jews, probably offensive to any on this forum, and I'm not surprised about the flaming. Yeah, I guess it would be a touchy issue.

The name should be AoM2: Realm of the Gods.

I love the idea of favor replaces xp and the Realm of the Gods thing! I also love the civilations, but combind the Greek2 major gods (acept Kronos) with the Greek1 minor gods and you've got one great Greek civ! Also add the Atlanteans as a civ.

Atlanteans were just a civ that was a spin-off of Greek titans and Roman units. I am totally against the Atlanteans back in the game.

My Greek civ includes a lot of Atlantean attributes. There is no need to keep them in the game.

I guess Dieneces is right. The Greek civ does have a lot of Atlantean attributes.
