Topic Subject: Age of The Empire VI
posted 04-18-08 06:01 PM EDT (US)

Ladies and gentlemen, (I guess that accounts for most of you) I bring to you the Hexuquel (?) of the Age of The Empire series. So, without further ado, I bring you the long awaited* Age of The Empire VI!

Sorry, I guess there is further ado. In previous games there is only one main empire, but, in this time period, there are two empires; the Americans and the Soviet Union, so, I have put the civs into two faction groups, the Capitalists and the Communists, with varying differences between them (such as names of buildings), so therefore, I have added a new resource, the Comradeship/Taxes (Depends on the faction group) which is like export.

V) Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles

The nuke from my last game; Age of the Empire V, has the similar attack, and the same launch abilities, for more info, see my last game by searching it on the aoe3 forums under my name, READ IT BEFORE YOU READ THIS, IT MAKES MORE SENSE.

These are the changes:

•Nukes can be launched by all Civilizations, yeah you heard me, ALL CIVS!
•No limit of launched nukes
•The nuke’s crater makes fallout, which damages all units who don’t have either the FR upgrade, (fallout resistant) or has the FR upgrade built in.
•The whole “nuke stealing” concept is, as they say in England, “in the bin” Lucky old bin, I say!
•ICBMs can be fired from missile silos and nuclear submarines.
•After 1 nuke, the map stays the same, (apart from the big freakin crater) after 3 nukes, wildlife starts to leave, and civilians and infantry are seen wearing filter masks, after 4 nukes, farms cannot be harvested, trees are dying, the land seems scorched, your flags are tattered, farms are unharvestable, your buildings and navy have more lead lining, and civilians and infantry are seen wearing gas masks, after 5 nukes, the land is like mordor from the lord of the rings movies, and the sky looks like the sky from the machine world in the matrix movies, your buildings and navy are completely covered with lead lining, and your civilians and infantry are wearing anti-radiation suits. At this point, units without FR die instantly. Scary, isn’t it?

You can only train one hero unit, if it dies, it respawns at the capitol.

VII) Campaign

The Campaign is split into four acts, the first is the Vietnam war, and the start of World War III, the second act is the battles between East Germany and NATO, the third act is the battles in the north between Canada and the USSR, and the third act is the naval battles between the USA and Cuba, and the end of the war.

Next time, the war has ended, and possibly the world, but, some survivors have survived Armageddon, and the fight for survival begins in Age of the Empire VII, The End of Empires.

I like Orowac's ideas. Just a couple of suggestions. First of all, you might want to change history around a little bit for continuity purposes. Nixon was a grade-A asshole, maybe make the leader somebody else. Finally, nukes wouldn't be realistic, unless you were doing things on a huge scale.

Hope that sounds coherent, I'm tired :P

Can you think of another president who would get America thrown into a global thermonuclear world war (apart from the obvious)? Besides, can you imagine World War III without nukes? It's like the Superbowl and both teams are naked, it just doesn't work.

It's good but i think East Germany is a no it has been the reunited as Germany. Flash back 1980's "Mr. Gorbechev tear down this wall!" Remember? The fall of the berlin wall...the final collapse of communism...ring a bell?

Yes, that happened in late 1989, that's definitely past the time era he wants.

WHY WOULD COMMUNISM FALL IF THE GAME IS ABOUT WWIII! AMERICA VERSUS SOVIET UNION, GLOBAL TERMONUCLEAR WAR! WHERES THE CAPS LOCK ON THIS THING! oh there it is. Anyway, reepicheep77 is right, this game is around the Nixon Regime, which would make it late 70's.

Actually, Nikita Khrushchev was deposed by Brezhnev in 1964.
Richard Nixon resigned in 1974.
But yes, this IS alternate history.

"After 1 nuke, the map stays the same, (apart from the big freakin crater) after 3 nukes, wildlife starts to leave, and civilians and infantry are seen wearing filter masks, after 4 nukes, farms cannot be harvested, trees are dying, the land seems scorched, your flags are tattered, farms are unharvestable, your buildings and navy have more lead lining, and civilians and infantry are seen wearing gas masks, after 5 nukes, the land is like mordor from the lord of the rings movies, and the sky looks like the sky from the machine world in the matrix movies, your buildings and navy are completely covered with lead lining, and your civilians and infantry are wearing anti-radiation suits. Well, yes, it is.
But I am trying to see how this makes the game playable.
I mean, I am trying to see how the use of nuclear weapons makes any game playable.
I'm not familiar with other strategy games like C&C, Rise of Nations and the like, so maybe someone can enlighten me as to how they do it [they obviously do, since they are successful <shrug>].
But I just can't see how this would fit into an Age of Empires type of game; doesn't seem like the kind of direction ES would take.
Just my two cents.....

Orowac, I'm interested in hearing more about your opinion on the use of nuclear weapons in an ES game.
I don't see how the use of nuclear weapons makes it playable.
All those things you describe as scary after a nuclear explosion.... how is that supposed to be attractive and workable as a game-playing feature?
I just don't see it.

All of the scary stuff I explained was supposed to be a deterrent from winning too easily. a nuke game without a deterrent is doomed, look at Empire Earth games, there were no deterrents against nuking your opponent to kingdom come, and look at the terrible ratings it gets.

Okay, got it, thanks.
Leemmee ask another question, just to make it clear in my head how this works and looks in the game.

Let's just limit it to ONE nuke.
"The nuke’s crater makes fallout, which damages all units who don’t have either the FR upgrade, (fallout resistant) or has the FR upgrade built in."
"After 1 nuke, the map stays the same, (apart from the big freakin crater)"

I didn't see what the specific maps are in your description.
I assume friendlies and enemies are on the same map, i.e. both can potentially be affected by the nuke fallout.

So it can affect civilian and military populations [if not protected], but not buildings and structures?
The buildings are still there and can still be used [or maybe not], but the pop must stay away from that map for a period of time?

Anyway, thanks for the clarifications.....
posted 05-05-08 01:07 PM EDT (US)     20 / 21
You see, gustin, the reason buildings are not affected is because, as I said in the description

your buildings and navy have more lead lining

you see, buildings have more protection because they can build nuclear bunkers, but units cant have a cage of 6 inch lead lining around them at all times.

For further visualization, go to www.intothematrix.com and download "The Second Rennaisance Part II" and look carefully at the battle scene, you'll get a good image of what I'm talking about.
