AoE IV: Brave New World takes place from 2400-3200 A.D.
It's main premise is that it takes place after a series of global catastrophes, including a small nuclear conflict, global pandemics, and endless wars that are called the change.
The Ages
Post-Change Age
Humanity's technology has greatly been reduced, with mostly pre-industrial technology for use, and countries having disintegrated into small tribal societies.
Feudal Age
Humans discover how to make gunpowder and society begins to advance from small tribal societies into feudal systems.
Development Age
There is greater redistribution of old knowledge from pre-change days and governmental systems become more sophisticated as does technology.
Steam Age
Steam power is rediscovered and put to use again and society becomes industrialized.
Petroleum Age
Petroleum is harnessed as power and weapons become more advanced and semi or fully automatic.
Nuclear Age
Nuclear power becomes dominant and nuclear weapons emerge.

A federation of city states on the eastern coast of the United States and Canada. Very strong infantry and navy but weak calvary. Special unit: Minuteman.
-Northern American Empire
A united empire of provinces that stretches from central Canada through the midwestern United States, parts of central America and the Caribbean. Strong calvary but weak infantry and very weak navy. Special unit: Ranger calvary.
-Osakan Union
An empire ruled by the Japanese city of Osaka that includes Japan, parts of China, the western coast of the United States and Canada, Indonesia, and parts of the pacific. Very powerful navy units and infantry, but not weak and not many calvary. Special unit: Samurai gunship.
-Mongolian Empire
Semi-nomads that control Mongolia, parts of China, much of central Asia, and parts of Russia. Very powerful calvary and archers, but weaker melee infantry. Special unit: Archer horseman.
-Mumbai Empire
A empire ruled by the city of Mumbai in western India, Pakistan, Nepal, Tibet, and Sri Lanka. Powerful gun infantry and calvary, but weaker archers and melee infantry. Special unit: War elephant.

A confederacy of semi-independent city states in eastern India with colonies in southeast Asia. Strong melee infantry and archers but weak calvary. Special Unit: Mughal swordsman.
-Arabian Caliphate
An Islamic empire that controls much of the Middle East, Egypt, and Northern Africa. Very strong calvary but weak navy and infantry. Special unit: Mamluk calvary.
-Venician Republic
A republic that controls parts of Italy, the Illyrian coast, Greece, and that has numerous colonies all over the Mediterranean. Very strong navy and infantry but weak calvary. Special unit: Genoese infantry.
-Armenian Empire
An empire that controls Armenia, Turkey, much of central Asia, and parts of eastern europe and Russia. Strong calvary and archers but very weak navy and gun infantry. Special unit: TBD
-United European Duchies
The united duchies of western Europe that control parts of France, Spain, Britain, Germany, and Scandinavia. Strong calvary and gun infantry but weak navy and melee infantry. Special unit: Gun knight.

The remnants of the pre-change EU that control small parts of the western European countries and Iceland and Greenland. Strong navy, moderate infantry, and weak calvary and gun infantry. Special unit: Peacekeeper.

Union of swahili speaking peoples that also control other parts of Africa. Strong infantry but very weak calvary. Special unit: Tribal spearman.
-Zulu Empire
