This scenario depicts the English siege of French-occupied Fort Niagara in 1759. This scenario will be as historically correct as I can manage.
Storyline:
Situated on the shores of Lake Ontario, Fort Niagara was protected by extensive, European-style earthen outworks: a glacis, ditch, and a covered way stretching across the peninsula and screening the castle and other buildings within the ramparts.
As the British gathered forces at Oswego, the Iroquois formed a military alliance with the British, hoping to weaken the French position in the Ohio.
On July 10, 1759, Brigadier General John Prideaux laid siege to Niagara. The defence of the fort was lead by Captain Pierre Pouchot. If Niagara fell, the French would lose their portage route to Lake Erie.
Scenario Information:
-You assume the role of the British besiegeing force.
-You are assisted by the Iroquois.
-You must finish the trench system in order for your mortars to come within range of Niagara's outworks.
Geographic Information:
-Fort Niagara is located on high ground, and is protected by three outworks and a main bastion. The French have cannons and many defenders on the walls, so storming the fort soley with infantry is not a viable option. You will need to use your howitzers to bring the defences down.
-Your siege trenches border Lake Ontario.
-The portage road runs along the shore of the Niagara River.
Primary Objectives:
-Bring the General to the center of the fort.
Features:
-Ration system: You have a stockpile of food that decreases every so often, symbolizing feeding your troops. To replenish your rations, you must take out and capture various French buildings/control points that are around the map. If you run out of food, you will lose your ability to fight.
-Soldier Mortality: Your soldiers die with a few hits from a bullet, and are massacred by artillery fire.
-Realistic Terrain: Your men are unable to climb steep slopes, so be careful where you position them.
-Control Points: Capturing certain areas will improve your strategic position or reward you with food supplies.
-Compact Formations: Formations are now smaller, resembling historical battallions. Artillery is more effective against infantry, so watch your men carefully.
-Random Variation: Small components in the map have random choices, to keep the player entertained and to make every game different.
Special Thanks to my playtesters, Pepsidude and cat. |

A 5 for Playability. The Balance is a bit skewed in the favour of the British, so only a 3. For Creativity I'll give you a 4. None of it was original, but of course it was a historical battle, so I'll give you a 4 for sticking to the facts (besides Pepsi.) A 4 for Map Design (most of the map was pretty boring, but the detail invested in the British camp and Fort Niagara itself more than makes up for it. One note about the Iroquois village: I sincerely doubt they laid them out with a Main Street.) For Story/Instructions I give a 4 as well, because the main story was good but there wasn't much of it.
All I can say is:
The fort is yours. |

Thanks for the review. The pepsi part was an easter egg (Tip of the hat to my playtesters:p). |

It was good I really liked it but I wish you'd listed those things up there in the objectives, because I died without any apparent reason. I had to read the food ration thing here before realize what I'd done wrong.
But I really liked it. Can you write down how you made it? It was really fantastic and I want to learn how to make something that good. My Fort Fisher thing was terrible compared to this.[Edited on 06/20/06 @ 06:01 PM]

Well, I put months of work into it, and I was willing to plan out what I was going to design on paper. It helps to give time to experiment with the editor (to see what's cool to add and so on).
As for individual details, I'd be here for months explaining it all:p I suggest going into the editor with the scenario and poking into my trigger groups (Most are organized into an appropriately named group).
Thanks for the comment, by the way :). |
