Version: The Conquerors 1.0c
Instructions:

When converting either in GIMP or photoshop to an indexed color, use this palette.

This will get rid of the white box of doom and no longer requires inverting or editing in paint or anything else.

Just make sure your transparent parts are White, RGB 255/255/255.

No, but GIMP is free anyway and superior in my view.

Do you have to save the images as a particular file like JPEG or 256 Colour Bitmap?

If you are using gimp or photoshop it will and you use this palette it will automatically save it as an 8 point bitmap.
