This mod pack partially converts the mesoamerican culture to the khmer culture.
All graphics are made by NedmadOhcet, Agamemmnon, Scenario_t_c and the their team in 2003.
This is their forum thread http://aok.heavengames.com/cgi-bin/aokcgi/display.cgi?action=st&fn=9&tn=31937&f=9,31937,0,0&st=0
To use you need mod pack studio installed.
I didn't have time to edit the graphics and make the anchors better, i'll update it in the future. |

Cambodians, they had an empire in the middle ages. Btw their wonder is Angkor Wat, but i didn't included it, because it's already uploaded in the blacksmith.[Edited on 11/07/12 @ 03:27 AM]

Thank you very much :). I didn't made this particular graphics, but i was looking for them, since i thought i can use them for the indian culture. Finally i learned how to extract the images and i decided to upload them for other people who wants to use them. And in fact i think the imperial market and town center(the ones with the orange roofs) are thai's :).

The buildings need some work, but the idea is very nice. As for the UU, Agamemnon made elephant spearman or something but i don't know how to get that unit :). |

Yes, it's difficult to remove that white pixels. It's because the file format in which were the images that i downloaded. So i uploaded the originals and if someone knows a fast way to edit them, he can do it :). |

Mods that allow you to experience new game-esthetics and/or play new civilizations are always on top of my try-out list. That the legendary Agamemmnon had his fingers on this unfinished project got me even more interested, since his artwork has always made my eyes shine bright and puke rainbows. Here is why downloading the unfinished Khmer culture is worthwhile and what you can and cannot expect from the download.
Usefulness/Novelty: 5
Though there are some flaws in the quality I will discuss later on, the usefulness/novelty of this mod deserves highest rating for two reasons. For one, the raw graphics and slps being provided, any modder with more time on their hands can use this material to create something even more beautiful and complete. Secondly, the idea to put the spot-light on a less well-known civilization is quite an original move and accounts for an unique project. Overall there is just nothing to whine about in this section.
Quality/Instructions: 3
Unfortunately some of the buildings have unclean white edges and are overall slightly more pixelated than the in-game graphics. Also the scaling is not always balanced and some buildings look odd next to each other. A more forgivable artistic flaw is that the harmonic fit between buildings is sometimes sacrificed for historical accuracy. May be that the castles look like the real thing, but this way they also look slightly out of place compared to the other Khmer buildings. Inspite of all these details I am bitchin' about the artwork is still to good to go lower than 3 in the rating. I was really happy to see that someone took the time and effort to graphically model a forgotten and exotic culture. While this could have been done better, the skill-level of this art must not be underestimated, especially when keeping in mind the difficulties involved in editing graphics.
Additional Comments:
This is a truely beautiful collection of raw drafts that can serve as a source of material and inspiration for other modders. What this download will not provide you with is a playable Khmer civ. For that purpose you would need Khmer units, Khmer language and more buildings. None the less, if you are a designer interested in ancient south-east Asian culture and history I highly recommend this download! |
