Rebirth of a Nation

Two years ago, a rebellion broke out in the city of Alamar. At the time, Alamar was poorly guarded, so the rebels took over the city with relative ease. They then declared independence from Gael, the nation Alamar belonged to. This caused Lord Aneurin, the king of Gael, to send troops to reclaim the city...

Sir Dolphin is proud to present Rebirth of a Nation - Prologue. This scenario features:

* An short campaign on a 25x25 map.

* A unique storyline.

* A challenging "Hard" difficulty.

* Music from the "Ace Attorney" series.

* And more!

This scenario was designed for the AoKH Minigame Competition 2014. It is also the first campaign I have completed, so feedback and comments are greatly appreciated!

Three years later, "Rebirth of a Nation - Prologue" still has not delivered its full campaign, as is typical of blacksmith prologue scenarios. Certainly the campaign would benefit from not being placed on such tiny maps as the MGC14 required.

Playability 3

The gameplay hinted at was stealth, notoriously tricky in the AoC engine. Fortunately we didn't experience any such thing, as the main character has more affinity for throwing axes than sneaking about. The gameplay boils down to microing a Harold Hardraade in circles to kill off the enemy. Not an unpleasant playthrough all in all but neither was it anything particularly enjoyable.

Balance 3

The difficulty was appropriate, with the player having to run for his life and chuck axes like a madman to survive. The challenge the scenario delivers is quite boring however, being about as uninteresting as it comes. It really is just running in circles with a ranged berserk hero.

Creativity 3

Although the games basic gameplay was simplistic in the extreme, there were other ways the authors creativity showed a little bit of spark. The storyline for one, and the usage of JRPG esque music for another. Its enough for a average score here.

Map Design 3

The map was showing a subtropical climate I would say, with Oaks, Pines and Jungle trees. The combination looked reasonable and there were no glaring technical drawbacks, but on the other hand there was little noteworthy to mention about the map either. Its adequate for what it is.

Story\Objectives 3

There was a decent amount of storyline present based on a province which had revolted away from a larger kingdom. Dialogue drove the gameplay forward, and provided a reasonable explanation for why events were taking place. The hints, scouts, and objectives sadly lacked any detailed writing, being quite sparse.

Final Thoughts:Not a bad game to spend 15 minutes on, although you also wouldn't miss anything by passing it by.
