The Holy Road is Muhammad Mirza's entry to the 2016 Defend the Spot Competition.

Playability: 2
The scenario involved the defense of an island with several causeways, and while that portion was fun to play, the scenario as a whole seemed quite unpolished. Instead of fixing numerous trigger bugs, the author decided to provide copious instructions regarding how to avoid them (which worked most of the time) but still is not representative of a polished product. The scenario was also quite easy to the point where you could essentially place your defenses on autopilot and await the win. In general I feel it could have benefited from much more playtesting than it is apparent that it received.

Balance: 2
Simply put, the scenario was excessively easy even on the hardest difficulty setting. The player was largely able to put their defenses on autopilot as the bombard towers and supporting army destroyed the enemy incursions arriving in single file. Defending from the sea was slightly more difficult, but the player's Accursed Tower parried all enemy assaults easily enough. The greatest challenge of the scenario came in the form of bugs that could randomly bring defeat to the player for no apparent reason.

Creativity: 2
The author clearly had creative inclinations, and seemed to also have the makings of a potentially unique and interesting story. Nevertheless, those spheres begged to be fleshed out more - aside from a couple unique objectives and dialogues there was little meat to the scenario in this category.

Map Design: 2
Some parts of the map looked decent (particularly the island that the player is defending), but it was clear that the majority of it was essentially a modified random map, which is not sufficient in terms of aesthetic. The saving grace of the map design, however, was that it contributed in a relatively positive manner to the gameplay.

Story/Instructions: 2
The story was underdeveloped and the instructions, while helpful in terms of helping the player avoid a minefield of trigger bugs, were otherwise somewhat lackluster. I got the general idea that I was supposed to be defending an island and serving the caliph against the natives, but not much else.
