It was a short but dangerous road to Vaucouleurs for Jeanne and her small band of temporary companions.
But she had made it in one piece. With Jean de Metz's word to help her not only meet with Charles at the Chateau in Chinon,
but also restore France to glory, Jeanne felt confident her angelic gaurdians are keeping her safe and helping her with her mission.
Meanwhile word of Jeanne and her claims had spread from the Lorraine province to Chinon in the west and to the English and
Burgundian camps in every city in between. In Chinon the Dauphin and his advisers wait anxiously in the Chateau. Could this be
France's last hope? Charles himself would surely be taken to England to be publicly hung if the English and Burgandians took Chinon.
Or even worse, hung in his own country he should rightfully rule and be made an example of to any other would-be claimers to the throne.

The English along with their Burgandian allies were victorious time and time again. France was falling, and it was only a matter of
time now till Charles and the crown were in British hands.

The roosters crow and the dawn breaks over Vaucouleurs...

The game was very nice FF/RPG style to play. Main storyline was very well made and a sidequest or two were a great addition. My only complaint would be the seriously damaged pathfinding, probably triggered by extensive use of Off-Grid placement. A really nice and very replayable scenario. 4+

Balance: 5
I played it on hard and was really struggling to complete it. Elevation bonus and hit and run was essential for the player to finish it. 5

Creativity: 5
The overall creativity was good, with a better usage of ES Joan of Arc first scenario story. A nice trigger system that allowed the player to choose his horse and with that his speed and health was a nice touch to increase the replayability too. Another very creative part was, when the player had to use his horse to find allies to help him. 5

Map Design: 4
Map design was very well made, with beautifully designed forests and fields. Great terrain mixing, maybe just a little more of elevation. The only thing that concerns me here is so called seasonal consistency. I'm not sure in which season the scenario is happening. Parts of the forests are very green, some orange and brown so I was thinking of early Autumn, but then the second part had snowy pines and snow grass. Another minor detail: Dirt 1 spawns plants here and there including cactus. Try clear them out as I haven't heard of medieval cactus forests in France. 4

Story/Instructions: 4
Story focused on the travel of Joan D'Arc and her companion De Metz to Chinon, a story of the first scenario of ES Joan of Arc. However the story is depicted better and history behind explained anyway. Objectives were short, but clear, while hints were a bit scarce. If you put in hints for specific parts of the map, try giving them a short title, example: Chinon; Watch out, as after you reach Chinon, you will be attacked (I made this up). Also try moving the credits from scout to victory screen and give the player some idea of the map instead.

Additional Comments: A very good scenario, that suffers from the pathfinding problems, that will hopefully be fixed soon. Download this much better version of Joan D'Arc's Chinon journey.

Jeanne d’Arc is a single player scenario by Dark_Reign which tells the tale of Joan of Arcadia and her first journey to Chinon. The scenario acts as a remake of the first scenario of the original ES campaign centred around the same character.

Playability: 4
An enjoyable campaign with many creative elements to it, Jeanne d’Arc was a great playing experience which builds on the nostalgia of the original scenario, whilst updating it to the many new design features that have been discovers into he twenty years history of the game. The scenario is a mixture of RPG and Fixed Force with a main storyline which sees Joan travel across France to Chinon, whilst also incorporating a number a side quests to help upgrade the players units. The game is entertain and well made, it is clear that the author is very experienced with the editor. However, the gameplay is great effected by dodgey pathfinding due to the overuse of off-grid placement. This is partly due to bugs with the HD editor, but still doesn’t allow for the tedious mistakes that it causes in this scenario. It make it really slow to move through the forest and really difficult to outrun enemies when you’re relying on hit and run tactics.

Balance: 4
The balance of the scenario was general good. Moments present considerable challenge to the player, whilst other times pass by with ease. On the most part, the average player will be able to sail through the scenario, facing some considerable challenge along the way, but nothing that will greatly hinder their ability to complete it. In other areas though it becomes frustratingly difficult. This is emphasised more by the errors in the path finding which causes the intended tactics not to work properly. The scenario relies on common tactics such as elevation bonuses and hit and run. These can be really annoying at times, especially when the dialogue specifically says to take enemies out one by one, but when you run your units can get stuck in between trees and therefore they die from multiple units catching up to it.

Creativity: 5
While the premise is not particularly original, the story having already been covered in an ES campaign. This is one of the better remakes around and it is full of creative little elements. A particular highlight is the ability to chose Jeanne’s horse. Each horse has different attributes, one is faster but has less hit points whilst another is stubborn so can stop every now an again, forcing you to pay attention and make it move again. There are a number of side quests to do along the road to Chinon, each one more creative than the last.

Map Design: 5
Dark_Reign is a proven artist with the scenario editor and this scenario justly proves this also. The scenario is beautifully designed with excellent terrain mixing and use of elevation. The forest and fields are very nicely designed and realistic with great layout of trees and eye candy objects. There is a slight inconsistency about the map with a snowy area in the mostly autumnal map, but it too is wonderfully designed and not worth taking a point off for.

Story/Instructions: 4
The story misty follows the familiar tale told in the first tale of the ES campaign. However there is a much greater focus on storytelling with more dialogue to develop the plot and character development. There is also a much greater degree of historical accuracy with much research being put into the topic in question. The instructions are clear and precise at most points but could have a greater degree of clarity to help the player know his objectives rather than rely on reading the dialogue. The hints section is helpful but could be laid out a bit more clearly so you know which section of the scenario they refer to.

Additional Comments:
Overall Jeanne d’Arc is a wonderful scenario and an excellent remake of the original Joan of Arc campaign.

Thanks
Possidon
