Topic Subject: Why can't I save in an important time?
posted 12-17-05 10:39 AM CT (US)
I am making my new scenario, but I found a prob.

In an important time that is easy to lose, I can't save! If I do it, I'll come back to the desktop.

So I wonder what made players can't save the game.

what i would do is give someone less units. because this happened to me at the start of the scenario when playing multiplayer. i got rid of some units and it works fine now.
(exept lagg)
hope this helped.

Thanks for your advices! I'll try to get rid of the needless units.

Also make sure that you don't have too many triggers firing at once.

If you are using "hidden units"/"beta objects" in your scenario (the stuff you get from templates, or through GeniEd), there's another risk to watch out for: Make sure you don't rename too many "hidden units" in your scenario. Especially if you change the name of many TWALLs with triggers, this may cause many save game crashes.

I also have the same problem, when my game crashes while testing the scenario

Does that mean I should create seperate off-conditioned triggers, containing the effects of my original triggers?

Example:

Trigger 0: (Original Trigger)
Starting Cond: On
Set as Obj: No
Looping: Yes
--------------------
Condition: Object Visible (Random Paladin)
Effect: Activate Trigger (Trigger 1)

...........................

Trigger 1: (Effects)
Starting Cond: On
Set as Obj: No
Looping: Yes
--------------------
Condition: Timer (4 seconds)
Effect: Play Sound (Random Sound)
Effect: Display Message (Soldier: We spotted a paladin!)

So if your scenario has lots of triggers happening at the same time, then is that how you should cure the "Crash to Desktop" problem, by doing that to each of the triggers in your scenario?

Any answer would be appreciated

I think I spotted 3 mistakes in your triggers:

1. The second trigger 1 is already activated. This means it will not wait for trigger 0 to fire, but go off 4 seconds into your game. Change its starting state to "off".
2. The second trigger 1 is on looping. Switch loop to "off", too. Otherwise, you will get the sound and the message every 4 seconds, no matter what you do.
3. "Object visible" does not work for random units, only for units you put on the map, and which you select.

What I meant to say was: It's better not to use 20+ effects in one trigger, or to have a very high number of looping triggers at the same time.

Hope this helps.

I daren't ever make many triggers fire at once. And I also think it is the reason why my campaign's playability was not very good.I used many "ice" the hidden unit, and I don't know if it was the risk.

I don't think the ice is causing your problem... it must be something different then.

Anything else questionable... I put too many soldiers on the battlefields.
