Scud Presents: Roger and The Chalice of Mana

The year is 1556 AS
It is the 26th of November
Around early Dawn
4:32 am to be precise
“ROGER! ROGER! Wake up so you can tend the sheep!”
The voice shatters the gloom. So yet again, as with every day – Roger puts on his thick furs and head out to his mother’s farming patch in their small village.
But – instead he wonders around the village in the morning gloom as he head to the monastery – why? He doesn’t know, he seems to be pulled there.
Father Gregor greets him and says
“Roger my child, you are up early – but I have a job for you”
“Really – boy I should be tending the sheep”
“I Need you to go on a pilgrimage to The Monastery at Razhil”
“Razhil…that’s Where the Chalice of Mana is kept”
“Indeed it is, I want you to go there and sketch some oil paintings of the artefact so we can hang them up in the church here”

The next morning
“You cant be going on some bleeding trip all because father said so, who will take care of our sheep – I’m old and withered – OLD AND WITHERED” said Roger’s mother in her shrieking tone.
So as Roger set up for the monastery high in the mountains were lots of pilgrims and tourists go also – he pulled his cloak tight and set off into the dawn”

One month later
“So we’ve finally made in to the monastery, ‘ey Shaun”, Shaun looked at him wearly and spoke,
“So why did you say you went on this pilgrimage again?”
“Oh it’s a long story..it all star….” A shout from one of the monk broke their conversation
“THE CHALICE!!! THE CHALICE HAS BEEN STOLEN!!!!”

The game I’m hoping will be mainly RPG but a mix of other genres like adventuring, puzzles and maybe some minor FF.

On your journey to the monastery you will pass villages, farms, inns and taverns and meet a whole host of characters and dilemmas – but the monastery is not the end of the quest – so be it only the start

The whole idea of playtesting is to give feedback promtly and stop any bugs in the latest version of play - not to get a sneak peak at it.

Cute screenies.

"Especially awe-inspiring is the fact that any single brain is made up of atoms that were forged in the hearts of countless stars billions of years ago... These atoms now form a conglomerate – your brain – that can not only ponder the very stars that gave it birth but can also think about its own ability to think and wonder about its own ability to wonder. With the arrival of humans…the universe has suddenly become conscious of itself. This, truly, is the greatest mystery of all." - Rama

I'll playtest. Hussarknight@hotmail.com
Playtestreports on this thread or via mail?

Something sbout the second screenie: There is a palisade wall at the foor of the cliff. Looks a bit silly to me. Maybe you should remove it.

Cameo
Need not apply! Might consider tiny roles for forumers as road side tlak, or idle chatter in the towns and taverns - but i'm thinking about this at the moment.

Please, no more cameos... be merciful!

I like what I've seen so far in you screenies. If you want me to take a look for bugs / make a few little suggestions, don't hesitate to send it my way and I'll have a look as soon as I can...

Good luck!

Thanks for the compliments, and added Paul + Hussar to the playtester list.

@Surge - Thanks

@ Hussar - Well the paliseds there are the borders of the villages, once i add some more elevation, trees, different terrain types, flowers etc. i think it should look quite good.

@Paul - No cameos, to your pleasure I'm i'm a bit annoyed at them myself, though i dont see the harm in bringing the community toghter (i'm a scuker for wanting to be a cameo lol )- theres just so many around at the moment.

Hehe yeah, it's a great idea and alot of fun, but there's more pride in not being a band-wagon-jumper.

Plus cameo scenarios tend to be too centred on the cameos rather than the actual scenario.

posted 04-23-06 11:59 AM CT (US)     6 / 45
I only considered for in game the adventures goes through many different towns, villages and taverns and on the way to the Monastry it self the character meets alot of people in the taverns he stops on the way.

If there where cameos - it would meen less script writing for me lol

But cameos are one band-wagon i'll let roll by....

I don't think I can playtest Scud, but good luck! I'll definatly download this once it's done.

And there's a spellins mess up in the topic above. On the last line of the story it says, "THE CHALICE HAS BE STOLEN" and I think it should be, "The Chalice has BEEN stolen."

Good Luck

Its going well, seeign as i have school and work to do as priority.

I've added in a large rivers that cuts throguh a third of the landscape and done the banks and trees and assecnorys that inlove doing so. Also started on some more farmsteads and tarvens and currently working on a frozen dockyard.

I've also made the desiscion for it to 100% snow (not all one terrain, but you know - set in winter). So it will take longer - for it takes more time to look snow beliveable and not look bland and flat.

I liked the "Frozen Dock" a lot. The "Monastery" looks a little too bland.
posted 04-29-06 03:21 PM CT (US)     27 / 45
It'll be better once i've added units in. Plus the Monastry is like a well order socicety, so you'd expect it from the look ofthe place.

The main sqaure with the Frankish wonder in, that'll be full of monks and other units, so you wont notice it as much.

Tell em what you what you think on the screenshots.

Now - i've gone quite a bit with the map design, i have started on the map for the second "chapter" of the game". But now i think i must stop, and work on the opening comple of scenes and hopefully put out a teaser

EDIT: Wondering whever to do some voice overs and voice acting for this scenario. I have a microphone so i am able to.

But what would be think of a spoken narrative by me?

But if i include vocie overs from other forumers this would become one of those "so-original" cameo scenarios.
