Please don't go away angry, as it is an important part of discussions that we be challenged by our peers.
My opinion is that the Mod well you created is excellent and if presented to the playing audience correctly it will enhance a scenario design.
The real issue is there has been a long time tradition and/or trend that most scenario designers do not use Mods. The thinking behind this trend is that using Mods reduces the number of players that will play a design. This is true because many will not want to take the extra steps to play the Mod.
I like Mods but they have a reputation of being a hassle to use. Especially among scenario designers whom if a Mod Pack bugs out and causes a reinstall it can be a headache.
This concern for Mods causing problems is in my opinion over-blown. Still, the important thing to consider for both scenario designers and modders is what units or objects a mod-pack replaces.
If we use a Mod to enhance an already complete scenario, the problem is that when it's played without the Mod the scene and scenery is ruined.
That's why it would be good for the Modder and Scenario Designer to work together to see if they can keep that from happening. Also, it would be easy enough for designers to just create a second version of their designs to be used with a Mod Pack. This will raise the number of potential players to include Mod Pack enthusiasts.
What probably has to happen before Mods are widely used is for some respected and trusted designers to use Mods and endorse their use.
So yes, rwilde challenged the notion that a Mod would be a better alternative but there is a school of thought and opinion that supports that.
I doubt very much his reply was meant to ridicule, but instead was to inform you of the realities of using Mods in a scenario design that we all face.
