Just dropping by to congratulate Scud on the inauguration of the CSC's fifth installment as well as Figgy for the well-deserved victory. I also wish to encourage you screenshot makers to keep the url of your past entries active on the corresponding site, regardless of whether it had won or not, so that people can still view the pic via the archive. Good luck on the ongoing and upcoming competitions, everyone.

Yes Andan, I did, because I don't want to keep too much useless stuff at my hoster's account. Takes too much time to find stuff you need otherwise.
So I've deleted that screenshot,and removed the link. Anyway only the winner get's into the archives, so I supposed it was no more useful ?

Actually, everyone who enters and votes get put into the archives. The entries for each round are linked to and then the voters are in parenthesis after the person they voted for.

I never noticed that one until you mentioned it. That happened because I moved my entries stored in my photobucket account to one particular album, which caused the url to change as well. Thank you very much for the report Haroth, I'll edit the archives ASAP. Scud, here is the current URLs of my winning entries:

Like HP explained, it's still beneficial for the archives, because its whole purpose is to store every single shot ever submitted. You're not forced to keep the file though, your reason is understandable after all.

So, I'd like to submit something for this week, but I'm not entirely sure how to add a black box underneath the screenshot and add text to it, too. I cropped the image and everything; that was easy. I'm just not very proficient with this sort of thing and can't figure out how to do the rest. The only image editing programs that I have access to are GIMP and Paint, if you'd even consider that a decent program. Can someone give me an idea of how to do this... ?

MS Paint is more than enough to do the job, Hathor. You just need to put down something that acts as a backgroun for the text (e.g. a black rectangle) just below the shot, and then add text inside it. Voila.

That's how I did it, anyway.

I suppose I'll try and submit one for the constest. It probably won't be very good, but you have to start somewhere I guess.

Haroth, I think your entry is really good for a first shot. It doesn't matter what the text looks like, that's not what people vote on.

Not necessarily, that's just the stereotypical uniform. Most Confederate uniforms were a yellow-ish brown.

Review: because I can. Scores out of 5 this time.

TLM: MUCH improved map design, although the superdominance of green colors hurts my eyes a little (but not too much). A good joke/story, yet it does not make up the entirety of the shot - map design skills are apparent. Nice use of eye candy. 4.5

Scipio: good battlefield action, but too many of the troops look misdirected, as there are troops retreating, charging, strafing, etc. While Pickett's Charge was of a confusing nature, this looks more random than anything else - i.e. your "confusion" needs to be more deliberate (paradoxical I know). The corners all look badly neglected and/or patchy. On the plus side, touches such as cavalry maneuvers and dying horses are nice, but the mudpatches are either too dense or end too abruptly, depending on your point of view. 3

Paperclip: decent mixing, good use of eye candies, and a couple of nicely executed trigger tricks, but a few unit and bush outlines throw the score off. Also, the absence of green bodies among the dead is odd, especially considering their numerical disadvantage. 4

Haroth: good design as far as the map, but there is nothing to actually look at (of any interest). At the very least, task the cavalryman towards the house, and perhaps add a family to the shot. More eye candy along the path wouldn't hurt, either. Not bad, just bland. 3.5

Mapppp: My comments on this would be so similar to those on Haroth's entry, I could swear you guys are smurfs. The shot just does not have any "spark" in it that conveys any emotion whatsoever, at least to this viewer, leaving it rather...boring. Not bad, just bland. 3.5

Again, a shot that has no need to either be funny or be accompanied by captions to look marvelous. Plus, the map is well-designed, and the theme is portrayed nicely.
