Unit/Building Concepts


Recently I've noticed a lot of new units going up on the blacksmith both copy/paste and modeled and thought it would be nice to have an open forum for people to put cool unit concepts and give ideas for units they would like to see. I can see there are a lot of projects currently in the works and wouldn't mind sharing any concepts or completed graphics I come up with.

I invite anyone else to post their own ideas for units as well as any they've completed and are willing to share.

Personally I'm no good at 3d modeling and my units are all copy/paste for the most part but either are welcome.

@Dynasty_IV I know your busy and haven't been able to work on Age of Civilizations recently, but do you happen to have the graphics for the native cavalry (The Dog Soldier, Mounted plumed archer, and mounted archer with the bandana)complete? They look amazing and are exactly what I need to finish up the last of the base units for my mod, and the current Age of Civilizations DRS only contains one or two slps.

I've got a copy of the SLPs for this unit. I think I got them from another Mod Pack but I can't remember which. My SLPs unfortunately don't have any death or decay SLPs though. Does anyone have them and send them to me? Thanks Does anyone also know who made it originally so I can credit them.

I think it's a converted unit graphic from another game, but I don't know which. Depending on the game that may explain why there's no death/decay graphics - they were most likely never made.

That's in Battles of Middle-Earth. (the missionary, I believe) I'm fairly sure what you're showing was used as the death animation, and there wasn't really a decay.

@Zyth23, I'm glad to see someone finally making an attempt at Roman units. I would say that hastati WIP (b) looks more historically accurate than WIP (a), because the shield on the first one looks more like a triarii's shield. Also, the hastati were not spearmen, they used short swords and later, a gladius after the conquest of Hispania. The only time they used spears were as pila to throw.

I've made these using GIMP and Paint. Unfortunately haven't quite get the exact angle of buildings. I'm still a beginner in modding graphics.

Why is the horse tail green?and the rider seems to have grey hair :-)

The tail is the same as the Knight's which has this green texture. I could always change it to a darker one.

For the hair the original unit has blond hair but I didn't like it so I changed it to grey, but it doesn't look that great so I'll probably change it to black.

Really didn't notice that till today.

You can make the hair black or can make it the color of thethe cape.it would be interesting to see this unit with a lance.

I made some thingchanges similar to themake conquistador pike man,check the jorgito recolor unit pack.

Most of these I doubt ever got complete.

I always wondered why there was some Greeks Spikemen & Axemen in the AoE1 Intro Movie... And not ingame ? =(

The horse head is ... "too synchronised" with the spear I think.

But the model is not bad, maybe add him a Shield ?

Cant do much about the head movement that's how the original unit is made.But I like your idea of the shield will try that.

Mahazona, that looks amazing! If you're interested, I got partway through a mash-up of the lancer and guard lancer (and I think the Knight as well). Realistically, I'm not going to have the time to finish them, but if you're interested in making a unit like that, I can send you what I got (essentially, the attacking and decay animations)
