I have just discovered that the Ballista has the largest Line of Sight in the game. Like this, you do not need to scout in Archaic but can instead use your Ulfsark to build new TCs and start a Wonder so it will be finished faster. Then when you are in Mythic you can scout with Ballistae.

That's an iffy tactic, but I think it would be much more effective to scout with Vikings. Think about it. For example, imagine Mediterranean. You scout the water with a Viking or two, and build Odin's Monuments to prevent GP usage near the area. You would have the sea in your control. Of course, you can attack the Battleships when they are built from the enemy villagers, and then the water is pretty much yours. So, from there, you scout the map with your Vikings (they have 40 LOS, you know), raid them with your Hersir to get free Myth Units, and then it's just pretty much GG. I am surprised someone of your rating will be so blind to this obvious tactic.
