The game is free, and is the closest thing to aom/aoe i have found.

0AD is an open source RTS being developed by WFG, which was formed by members of HG actually. The main contributor on the first page you linked to, CheeZy, used to be a staff member here at AoMH too, so it's no surprise that it reminds you of AoM (also looks quite a bit like AoK).

Also, seeing as that was from 2004, it cannot possibly be from before aom.

Has anybody else gotten a virus from this? I got some Vontoo thing installed on my computer with adware since I dled this.

Haven't checked the latest build but have downloaded it several times during it's development. The contributions I made for the Historical accuracy were removed when the entire forum was reset. There was a very active history forum there.

Also regarding the adware, I have not downloaded the latest build but the previous ones were absolutely clean.
