You all know microing is very important in games. But in this post I don’t advise you to do some of the things that are written here because they require some time and fill your control numbers. However these can be important in scenarios or DM etc.
Here are some general tips:
1.Control group your types of units to different numbers. It’s much more faster than double-clicking or selecting from control bar.
2.Remember to use Attack move key(default key A). This will be very helpful because if you command your units to attack one unit they won’t fight until they get near him and be hit (this has been mostly corrected in AoM because they generally attack the units on the way if it’s very hard to get to the unit). Especially use this key if you’re encountering one unit type armies.
3.Although everyone knows, a reminder, make counter units attack the units they counter!
Melee Units
Infantry: make infantry attack cavalry you won’t need to much micro because cavalry will be on the front lines in default formation.
Here is a not very known tip: Make your melee units go in a mixed formation so that they won’t be targeted easily by their counters. Then select the unit type and command them to attack what they counter and so.
Cavalry: Always try to outflank opponents melee units and attack the archers (toxotes, TA). This may not be very possible with slow cavalry like Jarls, but works great with RC etc. And also try to get to the back of the army by going around forests or buildings. Ranged units Foot archers: Focus fire! Make them attack infantry. Fire behind the buildings if possible. Turma: Everyone knows how to use them, just try to hit and run if you want to do hard micro. Myth Units (Special attacks) Mummies/Medusae/Argus/Lampades: These are instant kill MUs. To use them most effectively group every one of them to a control group. Then kill all powerful units by using only one MU. Battle Boar/Hekagigantes/(Avenger): Use them to break enemy formations or against weak hp ed units. PS: About box formations, it’s very good against 2 or more sided attacks, but I don’t usually use it because it takes times for melee units at the back of the box to help melee units at the front. Little things are important I enjoyed the time writing this, I hope you do reading too. Any advice or comments are appreciated. I will add your advices to the post. A not well known tip: i.e. You have 20 toxotes which has 7 attack each. You are facing ulfsarks which has 70 hp(not taking armor into account). You focus fire your Toxotes to an Ulfsark and he dies with first 10 arrows. The other 10 is wasted. To prevent that group your units according to the type of unit you’re facing. i.e Group toxotes 10 by 10 in this example.
I think it's the time to change my sig.
