Topic Subject: The Downloads Section and Reviews (Please Read Before Reviewing)
posted 07 February 2003 03:00 PM EDT (US)
As many of you have hopefully noticed, the Review Guidelines have been posted for some time now. All reviews submitted to the Downloads Section must follow the guidelines that have been outlined.

Before you review, please take a few minutes to read over the guidelines, and make sure that you understand them and are capable of following them. Doing so will ensure that the reviews remain of high quality, and that you don't run the risk of having your review removed or converted to a comment.

Remember that a low-quality review reflects directly back on you. When people read a review that may be lacking in some areas, not only does it bring down the quality of the Downloads Section, but it also may cause you to look bad.

I've been going through the Downloads Section and removing reviews that don't meet the standards as outlined in the Review Guidelines, and I shall continue to do so. Also, in the near future there shall be a panel of moderators who shall be in charge of keeping the Downloads Section free from inadaquete reviews.

We appreciate your reviews, and are grateful that people are willing to take the time to submit their comments on a scenario. Just remember that if you are looking to make a brief note about what you thought about the scenario, make sure that it is a comment and not a review. Reviews should only be written by those who are willing to take the time to write a detailed commentary on the scenario.

The Downloads Section exists and thrives only based on the efforts of you people. Thank you for your time and effort!

I would like to add that people stop submitting scenarios in parts, there is a way to make campaigns now. If you dont understand how, contact me at kumarshah200@hotmail.com or here, and I will make the campaign file for you.

Also, reviewers should refrain from rreviewing demos I think as they dont tell much about the whole campaign (unless the author asks so). In such case, the review can be submitted as a comment

Herez to better reviewing from now on.

I am gonna start reviwing some of the scns (but some scns arent even worth reviewing )

<<<< This is a simple way to crate a basic Campaign >>>>

Step by Step guide to Simple AoM campaign creation :

1.) Open a new file in Notepad.

2.) Copy the following code in the first line

<?xml version = "1.0" encoding = "UTF-8"?>

3.) After You have done that, starts the main campaign coding.

Put in the lines :

<campaign name="Your campaign name" version="1">

Note :
- In the ES campaigns these appear inbetween the signs $$ and some numbers, that is like <campaign name = "$$20623$$Fall of the Trident" version = "1">. There is no need of that sutff.

- Put in the version as your version of the campaign, 1,2,3, etc.

Now each tag that opens in here has a closing tag. <campaign> is an open tag the closing tag being </campaign>.

Put in the line :

</campaign> after the opening campaign tag.

All the scenario specifications will come under there two campaign tags.

5.) Scenario Addition

Scenarios like campaigns have the same opening and closing tags. A default scenario tag looks like :

<Scenario dispName = "Name of Scenario" filename = "name of scn file" >Text you want to describe the scenario
</Scenario>

(Remember this will be after the opening campaign tag and closing campaign tag)

Add in this way more scenarios you want...by end your campaign should look something like.
------------------------------------------------------------ -------------------

<?xml version = "1.0" encoding = "UTF-8"?>
<campaign name = "My first campaign" version = "1">

<Scenario dispName = "Excellento" filename = "first" >This is quite neat!
</Scenario>

<Scenario dispName = "Second scn name" filename = "second" >And pretty easy to do too.
</Scenario>
</campaign>

------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------

6.) Saving

After you have coded the campaign totally comes saving it.
Using notepad you will have to save it as :

a.) You will write the campaign file name between quotes i.e. "campaignname.cpn"

b.) Save as type - change it from .txt file to - All Files

c.) Change Emcoding to UTF-8

Next time u run AoM you will be able to play the campaign and AoM will create the XMB file.

Be sure to use this when submitting reviews, or posts in general. It's a simple plugin, and is a great help.

BTW, did my first review today.

As ferret mentioned, spelling and grammar are an integral part of your review. Remember that your review ultimately reflects back on you; people tend to make judgements about you based on the quality of your review. Try to be as professional as possible. Obviously none of us are professional reviewers, but that doesn't mean that we can't try to make them as neat and tidy as possible
