Topic Subject: The Delphic Oracle finally Released!
posted 28 September 2003 02:49 AM EDT (US)
My campaign, The Delphic Oracle, has finally been submitted!
It is a ten-scenario campaign that includes its own sound, spotlights, overlays and difficulty levels. I know it is a long download of 7.95 Mb, but I assure you it is well worth it!

~The Story~
Follow Theseus and his escorts as they travel to rid the land around them of Bandits.

Aegeus, a man greyed with age, was once a man capable of slaying Minos' beast, the Minotaur. He passes the duty down to his only son, Theseus, who takes it gravely and sets out from his home town, Troezen, to destroy the mythical beast. Theseus must travel to the frozen Norselands to seek out Minos, a palace hidden within the mountains of Eyér. Along the way he meets many new comrades, who join with him to an unknown destiny.
Little does Theseus know that he and his companions will be the ones to save the world from becoming
enveloped entirely in darkness.

The Delphic Oracle has a variety of scenarios, four of them being RPG, and two of them are even the classic boss-battle type.

Click the link above to download the self-extracting file that will install all requirements for you.

Very awesome campaign

One problem though, in the 2nd scenario, "theocrat" keeps dieing, but he's not even on the screen, when he dies I loose. Is this a bug or what?

That shouldn't be happening...I tested so many times!
Does he die in the cinematic or gameplay?

It doesn't make sense...I tested it just then in AOM and it was fine

Is is possible to skip the scenario and continue, and how far are you into the camapaign?

Sup, I was going to email you with some bugs i found, but you didn't leave one, so here's a post (don't want to include bugs on reviews).

in scenario 2 when i gave thesues a group # he died, ending
the game (maybe what cheezy was talking aboot, or along
the same lines). Also the mountains are really annoying,
there's multiply places where people can walk right over
them. Don't know if it's by design, but i thought i'd let
you know. took a screen shot of the worse place if needed.

in scenario 3 the farmer can't farm very well (on my comp)
from the north farm (it keeps saying 'can't have 2 farmers
on 1 farm).

overall, especially in scanario 3 and 4, i think the boulder
part is too slow and makes you wait too long, but I'm
willing to write that off now as just something you can't
help.

hopefully i finish soon and can review, until then, I hope
this helps if you plan on trying to debug.

Later,

MasterRabbi

The problem in scenario two is a bug I cannot fix. People should refrain from putting Theseus into a group. This only occurs in the second scenario, Unwelcome Guests, and does not happen in the others.

As for the two farmers on one farm, that happens on my computer as well. I have absolutely no idea why that happens.

I think that might be the bug I was expiriancing

You can't be blamed for that though, putting units into groups causes some weirdness in scenarios, thats a known bug of the editor.

I believe MasterRabbi has been ridiculously harsh on the review he gave.

Quote:

Balance: 2
I thought that many missions in this campaign started you at nearly impossible odds. I had to play 1/2 of them twice because of little things like one hero dying, and large things like armies that you couldn't even think about building coming and tearing your town to pieces.

There are actually difficulty levels in the campaign. The difficulty level of EASY obviously makes scenarios extremely easy. If you are an unexperianced player, MasterRabbi, you should play on EASY.

Quote:

Playability: 4
This campaign did not suffer any technical errors, and everything was well explained, and bugs are virtually non-existent.

Why not 5 for Playability then?

Quote:

Story/Instructions: 3
The story is well thought out, and is easy to follow. The only problems I had was that it rings alot of the Theseus and the Minotaur myth, but then it takes it's own story, then comes back. My main problem where was I thought I would be going after the real King Minos, then went to the Norselands, but these are just minor things.

Fall of the Trident was made up, so why aren't you complaining about that? Sure, Arkantos was in the mythological stories, but the campaign's events were entirely made up.
I believe I mentioned a few times (in the Readme and in the credits after Scenario 10) that this campaign is not based entirely upon the Greek mythological stories. King Minos can live anywhere I want him to be, whether in Crete or the Norselands or even Africa.

Quote:

6 and 9 are very unbalanced in my opinion, and the little 'quest' in 6 was very annoying and gave the other civs alot of time to build armies to utterly destory you.

The computer players are not based on AI, as most people probably noticed. My campaign does not use any AI, therefore does not build anything. All the armies that may attack you during gameplay are entirely created with triggers.
That means I activate the attacks with triggers when you claim your settlement in scenario 6. While your little 'quest' is happening, the computer players are not doing anything at all.

Hmm, I agree it's unfair... Send him an email Lev and get him to make another review (which will overwrite the current one)

It's not a rediculously unfair review so I can't do anything.

You'll get a review from me when I finish playing your campaign

Is this playable at higher difficulty levels?

I have only found time to test the first mission, so I will review later. It was very fun though, but easy since I have chosen easy to avoid some possible bugs.

Very good atmoshpere until now. I would say it is almost on the level of the original campaign, but has better story.
I haven't seen anything eye-popping yet, though.
Great sound, adds much!

Excellent work!

This is very good. One of the few cpns on AoMH that really stands out.

And the review, 3.4, is ridiculous. It should be deleted, really.

HOW THE HELL DO YOU BEAT THE LEVEL WHERE YOU COMMAND 3 SHIPS 3 LEVIATHONS AGAINsT 20 JOURMOUND ELVERS!!! *angry*

i think its #7.

i thought the campaign was really good UNTILL this crap.

I explored all the black area like the inst. said, also put it on easy... ugh frustrating because this was really good.

whenever my last leviathon dies, i get a new one with the hero chick. But theres still like 18 jormound elvers (sea snake thingys) out where Im supposed to get to I guess.

did I miss something, cuz attacking 20 jourmound with a single leviathon untill each die, takes a LONG time and is NOT FUN

again, sorry, just frustrating cuz this is a really good campaign, just this...

You are not supposed to attack 20 Jormunds with 3 Leviathans!
You have missed something extremely important in the scenario. Don't just explore all the black map, you will also have to explore other things....

If you leave your E-Mail, I will tell you what to do if you don't figure it out first. Try to focus your attention on the last line of the riddle.

Lev, I am sorry if it seemed a bit harsh.

The reason for this being: I wanted to represent what I was
rating for every scenario. I was keeping notes on what I
thought, problems and good points, and the average came out
to 3.6, which I tried to represent through my overall
reveiw. I wish (though I know it is impractical and won't
happen) that campaign ratings had an individual rating
system.

And I did complain about Fall of the Trident on that point.
I know you have to bend the stories to make them 'map-able'
and respect it.

I never received an email asking for re-write and it was
taken down. I will write another one for you with higher
points.

I love how in a review, which is to express your opinion on a map and improve the designer, I cannot express my opinion
because it's not the general public's. I hesitate in writing this because everything I do seems to start wars, but it needs to be said.

No listen, a fair review is a fair review. When they came to my scn Spartan and gave it a 3.0 (or 2.9:P), I didn't complain because quite frankly, it deserved it. This cpn, it doesn't, so you were unfair.

My new scn, Heroes of Avalon, got a 4.7 and I think it deserves it..nobody's complaining:P.

yeah never mind.

It wasnt the puzzle, it was that I didnt know I had to click on that giant anubite monument/statue thing.

YOU SHOULD PUT "CLICK" ON MONUMENTS OR SOMETHIN IN THE HINTS SECTION

I figured it out quick, the puzzle that is.

this is def. a great if not the best campaign ive played, I love the minotaur battle. The half way pt. battle where you need to hit the minotaur and survive all these attacks.
very cool, the music was awsome too, it made me feel like i was playing an adventure video game instead of an RTS. Or maybe a really cool RPG.

i dunno, great job.
