Tricks with Gaia Flowers

I really felt like posting this since olmost no-one uses gaia flowers in their maps. There's a lot of stuff you can do with them, and I will show you how.

Snow

First of all, make an extra player that you don't use in the game, for example player 6 (you can make multiple for more effects in one scn as well). Choose the light greenish color for the player color, and go to the objects section.
Place down some gaia flowers on different types of grass, you'll notice it's white-like and it looks like snow. You can use this trick to somehow "alter the terrain" which is in fact not possible, but if you use cinematic blocks and change them into the gaia flowers, you can make it like it snowed. Here's a shot:

Blood

You can also use it as spattered blood. Use the red player color for this effect:

Farms, roads or Forest leaves

These flowers are mixed with eachother. One is green, other is pure gaia. Now the gaia flowers itself look like dead leaves, as you can see below. Grouping them together gives a pretty nice effect:

Or, you can make some farms and put the flowers on top to give it more contrast. They look a bit like those dirt roads from AoK, so you can use em as roads as well. Mix some green player and gaia player flowers, and you get this effect:

Gold chunks

Use the yellow gaia flowers near gold mines, or near a Norse armory for example. It's that lil' extra touch that does it:

Coals or black roads

You can use the black player color for creating coals (use multiple layers of flowers so they look thick) or group them close together and form a road:

Water streams

Even small water streams can be made using the flowers. It's somewhat a dark like water, but for making streams its quite effective (group them close to eachother as well):

Practicly, there are olmost endless tricks with the flowers. These are just a few. So experiment with them and discover new eye-candy tricks!

Final note: Don't overuse them, as they create huge lag in scenarios. So don't place down too mutch of 'em.

Comments are very welcome!

Good ! Although I don't like the river idea, it doesn't look like AoM's 3d water...

Apart from that, great tricks!

Wooooooooooooh that's awesome.

One flower trick I used was to create my own terrain, mixed it into the forest- I agree with Phatfish, Gaia Flowers are the best.

This is great phatty!

I don't know is a good idea for a game like AoM set in the past, but Gaia flowers can be used to create a night landskape of a city:

You can also make cycling farms this way:

1: start out with a bunch of closely packed brown gaia flowers, and pine forest underneath Also have a farm, but make it hidden as possible. Randomize the flowers to make the ground look rough-ish.

2: place some gaia flowers in rows

3: have a villager work on the farm for a while, then change the flowers that were in rows to berry bushes, bushes, trees, or w/e you want to farm.

4: After a while, change the farmed objects back to gaia flowers.

5: repeat.

I used the gaya flowers in a teal colour on dark places (lightsetting Night or eclipse) and it gives the idea of a little glow in the dark..maybe that can also be something for your quide

hadn't scrolled down after checking the main post but someone already gave a simmilar example.

anyway still nice guide

Great Guide Phatfish!
The snow flakes look great, the only trick that doesnt look quite right in my opinion is having the yellow gold specks on the gold mine...
