A mod from Epic Studios

By: Old King Coal, Master_Foozle, Dope, DayoftheNinja, newb27
_______________95% Complete!!_______________

Epic Studios felt that a simple universal Hoplite was not enough. There is too much diversity in them. There's Theban, Corinthian, Athenian, and Spartan just to name a few. They all have different armor, attack techniques, formations and importance. The Spartan, men, for example, lived to fight, and were therefore very good, if they spent their whole life training.

Now, Epic Studios has created this mod, the Hoplite mod. Now introducing 4 new types of Hoplites: the Theban Hoplite, the Corinthian Hoplite, the Athenian Hoplite and the Spartan Hoplite. They can be trained in the Greek Civilizations under certain Gods (eg: Athenian Hoplite would be trainable under Athena) at a new building called the Greek Barracks.

This mod features:
  • Four completely new units and buildings, building with techlogic
  • High historical accuracy.
  • New models, for helmets and the Greek Barracks.
  • Highly detailed textures, which fit in to Age of Mythology.
  • Historical stats and history files.
  • Icons and player colours.
  • Many shield variations and head variations, to make things more authentic.
  • Age of Mythology original and Titans compatibility!

    Variations:
  • Athenian Hoplite has 10 shield variations and 2 head variations.
  • Spartan Hoplite has 2 head variations.
  • Corinthian Hoplite has 10 shield variations.

    Stats: (to be announced)

  • More to Come!

We hope you enjoy this mod as much as we enjoyed making it. At Epic Studios we are dedicated to quality! When this mod comes out, feel free to use it in your own campaigns and scenarios.

BTW, now that I see the close-ups, the shield textures look a little off center etc. Especially the Spartan upside down V one, it's really off to the left a little too much :P I'll fix it if you want.

Love it, having the uniform for the three different places is brilliant. It does kind of reminds me of that one improved greeks mod, can't remember who made that.

Im sorry guys, but those textues aren't very good. Spend more time on the head textures I think.

I agree and in my opinion the textures unfortunately don't look as good as ES' textures. So this is contrary to the information in the text saying that Epic Studios is dedicated to quality.

In the update picture, the guy on the far right has a very strange misshapen head disease. You should get him to a doctor. The shield on the far left is off center, and I'd suggest using geometrical methods of fixing the alignment rather than free-handing it. With the inside right guy's sideways plume, what's up with the two lines hanging off of the end?

The guy with the bull shield is probably the most complete out of the 4, and it looks as though his helmet has been corrected from the beta, but if it hasn't you should get a blacksmith on that. It must be very uncomfortable to wear a helmet that doesn't fit like that.

The Spartan's shield is quite inaccurate, and very low resolution. I'll just leave it at that.

On the plus side, your greaves and sandals look magnificent. Keep on truckin'!

Im sorry guys, but those textues aren't very good.
Can you tell us what to change about the textures, and the heads? Their shape isn't exactly right but that's because it is zoomed in and that's the model, not the texture anyway. What should we add?

I'd be delighted to. Still noting on that updated screenshot, the guy on the far right's plume is too tall, somewhat lopsided and too fat. The small piece of metal holding the plume is far too tall, and I think his face is a bit too tall.

Nearly the direct opposite for your friend on the inside left with the white plume. His plume is straight from the front, but sort of sideways from the side and a tad skinny.

The fellow on the far left looks alright, other than the fact that the parts of the helmet that meet in front of his nose and mouth is slanted away from each other at the bottom where they should be parallel.

Don't be afraid to add a few more polygons to that shield model, because it looks a tad block at the moment. Tell your texture artist that he should make use of the pen tool to get more accurate lines rather than trying to free hand a straight line. It's terribly difficult without geometrical tools.
    posted 02 June 2008 07:07 PM EDT (US)     15 / 113
The pen tool? Is that some sorta tool in photoshop or something? The person who made those base shields had Gimp, and the textures are yet to be perfected.

Btw thanks for the feedback. I love it when people help!
So this is contrary to the information in the text saying that Epic Studios is dedicated to quality.
Why is this? This is a Beta showcase. We basically haven't worked on shields or heads, so you cannot say they are bad, because we are not finished. But what studio succeds without critisism? And comments? We thank you for this, and we promise you we will fix the changes you desribe.

Those stringy things hanging down are from this pic:

Actually, the pen tool is standard throughout most advanced photo editors, including Gimp.

I see now, but it could be widened. Right now, it looks more like a mistake than a tassel-like thing.

I think the main issue with the dangling crest bits are that they start towards the outside of the crest rather than from the helmet itself, which makes it look awkward. Also, bring the crest hanging down a tad rather than directly parallel to the ground. Looks surreal.
