In Sea Wars, there's a huge vareity of things to do. Be creative, neat, or destructive, and cunning.
If you don't like the fact that it needs 8 players, simply go into the editor and delete some towncenters and units that belong to the players you want to delete.
In Sea Wars, each player begins with 3 towncenters on a recangular island, and a King. If your king dies, you lose. If the enemy kings die, you (possibly your teammate) wins. The beauty of this scenario is that you don't have to go with that TVB crap. You can sort out your teams however you want. In the beginning of the game, Mother Nature grants ceasefire 15 times, which eventually adds up to 16 something minutes. That should give you enough time to build a fort on your island, make an army, navy, w/e. Walls around the shores would be a good idea as well, however towers and fortresses can't be build during Ceasefire, so beware of that.
