I had a look at Dragon's Claw and liked it. Give me a day or two and I will prepare a short write-up commentary. |

tbarak, hi. I'd like to see what you thought about it. Did you run version .1? Theres a big difference. |

I DLed this version. Not sure which but I can say that the one I played did not have a trigger effect of cinematic mode "off" if that helps?
I will look for the newer version and try it but you may want to either ask a mod to remove this version since you don't want people seeing the unrevised one, or simply update this version with the new one. No cinematic mode "off" meant I had no cursor after the cinematic ended and I had to CTRL-ALT-DEL out of the game. A big no-no in scenario design! Best to remove any prior versions as you don't want to give ppl a bad impression of your work.
If there is another version? Where is it? Please provide the link or tell me where it is. [Edited on 07/03/04 @ 10:30 AM]

I just added the new trig. I was aware that I didn't use the cine end trig, didn't believe once the game was quit it would still effect the game. Sorry. |

Yay, my cursor is back!
Alright....
You did an effective job of creating a very pleasing wintery, mountainous landscape. I found the scenery attractive. I loved the wolf shot- the moon and night cycle really worked well and there was good use of sound effects that effectively heightened the mood and atmosphere. There were enough little touches- such as the woodcutter dropping off at a woodpile instead of a cart- to keep me engaged, and this is so sorely missing from many other cinematics. Of course your interior was a highlight and that's an area that I have never even considered to explore. In this respect your cinematic is very successful at giving me a "oh cool, don't see that too often" reaction. For that you get this --->:)
But as good as I thought the interior was, I think you could "sell" it even more. As I was watching it I was really hoping for the camera to crane down to eye-level so I could really see the walls and even some of the ceiling. You could use angled wall sections to create at least some false ceiling sections to make this even more of an interior. I don't know if you're the first to employ an interior, but for sure this isn't done too often.
You've got some spelling errors in the dialogue as well I would dispense with flashing the hersir when he's speaking- you've already got a nice close-up shot of him and the flashing distracts from an otherwise nice scene. You've got to do a bit of work on the riding sequence as the pathing is really mucked up near the end. Also the riders running up and down cliff walls seems really out of place in this otherwise carefully constructed work.
Although I saw only one violation, try to avoid going through solid objects with your camera unless it's for affect. A little tough on your map because of all the peaks and valleys.
And my final comment is that I would end it on the riding sequence or perhaps do something more with your current last shot. I just thought the last shot was a little anti-climactic, and after all, the last shot is very important. Surely you have something better to show than some guy standing around holding some logs?
An already nice cinematic that with a bit more work, can be excellent. |

Cool, good stuff to work with there. I will come back later tonight and go through your comments carefully, and see what I can improve. By the way the log guy is watching the riders go as if to say "phew there gone". Thanks for the intrest. |

tbarak, you write such long good comments, why dont you just make them reviews? Its alot nicer to get reviews than just comments. [Edited on 07/03/04 @ 10:38 PM]

Comments are gold for a designer, I love it. If someone sees something I dont and lets me know about it, it greatly improves the work, and thats what I'm all about. Quality scenarios.
Well Tbarak, I think i nailed it. With your help of course. I liked what you said so I tryed to do each point touched upon. The one thing I tryed to do that didnt work out was an up angled view in the bar room. Where as I have those gaints sized mt. it was playing havoc with the cam files, so I had to keep it aboveboard. Did manage to add to the look of the place.
I went with what you said about the fashing units, and I agree looks much more professional with out it. Thoe, it did draw the viewers eye to the action. If I run into more complicated cinematic I might go back to it-. Na probably not. Anyways much and many thankyous. |
