Chess for AoT v3.00 (2011-04-20)
WHAT'S THIS?
This is the game of chess - as you all know it - programmed in AoT.
Contrary to some similar submissions by other people, this RMS
actually enforces (most of) the rules of a regular chess game.
INSTALL
Extract the 2 folders inside this zip archive into
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Age of Mythology
and accept any overwrite requests.
GAMEPLAY
To start a chess game, simple host a game and select chess from the
scenario list.
Once started, you will be asked to select a piece to move every
time it's your turn. To do so, simply doubleclick on that piece.
Follow the same procedure to select a target square. When your double-
click has been registered, a light will be shown on that location.
If you selected the wrong piece by accident, simply double click on it
again. This will indicate that you want to cancel your move and try again.
To perform a castle move, select your King as source, and a Rook as target.
ONLINE PLAY
The scenario is meant to be played online (ESO or LAN). There is no AI included,
neither can you control the pieces of the opponent. However, if you load the scenario
in the editor, you will find that it is very easy to switch it in Offline Mode using
the existing triggers. In offline mode, you can also move the pieces of your opponent.
However, it won't work online anymore at this point.
UNIMPLEMENTED FEATURES
- Checkmate: you just have to catch the king next turn.
- King must not move into check. If he does anyway, catch him the next turn.
- King and rook must not have moved yet before a castle move.
- While castling, king can not pass any squares that are under attack.
- En passant should only work right after the enemy pawn moved forward.
KNOWN BUGS
- In AoT, Gaia lush screws with the map design.
- Sometimes the hotkey mode gets messed up. You'll notice this when it's your turn and
doubleclicking does not generate a light anymore. Press control-space to fix this.
REPORT A BUG
If you spot an error in the system, e-mail me the details along with
your C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Age of Mythology\RTS3banglog.txt
file. All moves are recorded in there, which will help me trace the bug.
RECORDED GAMES
For your convenience I've sent the command output to the RTS3banglog.txt
file as mentioned earlier. You could hypothetically parse that file and
input the results in an online chess replay system. I'm running a bit short
on time, but there's no doubt a volunteer who could write such a parser if needed.

I definitely want to download it just to at least check it out. Chances are that I would probably like it.
Just out of curiosity, though, what are the few rules of chess that wouldn't be included in here? Because chess is not chess without ALL of the rule. Haha |
