Water Hills

Ever wanted realistic looking rivers or lakes, with water tumbling down at some points? Never knew how to do it? Here’s your chance to change dull and empty rivers or lakes to something totally different.

Here’s how the trick looks like:

As you can see in the above picture, water is tumbling down into a small lake, similar to a waterfall. Unlike a real waterfall, boats can go up and down this type. You can also put buildings under it using the “Move Unit” option, which creates a nice effect. You can also use this trick to make streams and rivers look much cooler.

Creating water on Hills

Start off with creating a mountain, size depending on how big you want the river/lake to be.

Next, put some water on it.

Then, use the “Map Elevation” option (found under “World” option) and click on the “Max.” button which takes the height of the map to its maximum (you can use the “Move map down” button to take your map to its normal height again). The water should be floating in the air now.

Now, carefully place some water next to the floating water and make sure they don’t touch eachother.

Now, use the water paint tool again to create more floating water and enlarge until it hits the water below.

The floating water should drop down automatically and match up with the water created below. Add some eye-candy and other things to make it look even better. Use the same method to create cool looking downward streams and rivers.

Just keep experimenting with various heights. Experimenting with the editor is the key to success!
