oops - i forgot to write down who was who and the turn order, so you guys will have to help fill me in... here is what I THINK it is:

SIM - Tigrans - Mr. Tibbs (100) replaced by Bruce (100)
MAZ - Dark Elves - King David (100) killed by Sam (1st killed) -8 pts
SUM - Humans - crvjr replaced by dracoden (67)
MUZ - Orcs - Ausaitis (100) killed by Miz (2nd killed) -7 pts
SAM - Dracos - nerull (104) (+2 for Maz, +5 for Miz = ??)
MIZ - Goblins - evil-roc (191) killed by Sam (3rd killed) -6 pts

this IS a WL game, so please make sure you are registered for the ladder.
this will be scored according to gametype A - 'the ante' (with placement points, wizard value based on rank)

this would mean that tibbsbruce, king david, nerull, and ausaitis are worth 2 points each, crvjr dracoden worth 1, and evil roc worth 5. wizards lose that amount if they are killed, and who kills them gains that amount. points are also distributed according to where you finish (7, 4, 3, -3, -5, -6)

surrender is OFF
max heroes = 3 (by map design)
house rules in effect.

good luck to everyone, and have fun!
remember, its a FFA game, and while alliances are allowed, be ready to be stabbed in the back!

BTW important question: AFAIK there is a possibility to archive an instant victory on that map by controling all six relays. How will we determine who places second/third and so on if say all players are still alive and someone wins the game by capturing relays? It seems all WL rules are designed for maps without such victory conditions?
posted 06-06-04 01:35 PM EDT (US)     8 / 246
very good question, and something I had not considered when designing the map (which was of course before the FFA games were allowed anyway). It also would not change matters for game types that do not use placement points, but use only kills or a pool. in the latter case, I would say that the victory condition is efectivly a kill of every other survivng wizard.

I'll have to think about it more, but my gut instinct is to say that for placement-gametypes, that number of kills would be the tie breaker, and for ties that can not be settled, the placement ranks that they would occupy would be averaged together, and scored accordingly.
for example, if the 6 players agreed that each wizard was worth 2 points and the following happened:

Player A - got the auto-victory
P B - nothing
P C - nothing
P D - killed by player F on day 3
P E - killed by player F on day 6
P F - killed plyer D & E

then it would score like this
PA = 7 pts for placing first
PB = tied for (2nd, 3rd, 4th)
PC = tied for (2nd, 3rd, 4th)
PD = -6 points for placent (last of 6)
PE = -5 placemnt (5th of 6)
PF = tied for (2nd, 3rd, 4th)

player F, having 2 kills, would earn 2nd place (4pts).
B&C tie for 3rd &4th, so looking at the placement points, that is 3 pts for 3rd, and -3 for 4th, which averages 0 pts; therefor they each earn 0 points for placement. now we add in the wizard kill bonus, and we get the following:

A = 7 + 6 (+2 points each for killing players B,C&F) = 13 points
B = 0 + (-2) for being killed by A = -2 points
C = 0 + (-2) for being killed by A = -2 points
D = -6 + (-2) for being killed by F = -8 points
E = -5 + (-2)for being killed by F = -7 points
F = 4 + 2(+2 for killing player d, +2 f0r killing E, -2 being killed by A = +2) = 6points

Some of our troops paid the ultimate price because one of them did not understand his orders yesterday. No Dark Elf warrior wants to be remembered for such feebleness of mind, and so all remaining troops are exerting maximum concentration in their service to the Cause. They also hope that a hero emerges to lead them forward, for alas I myself have other business to attend to at the moment.

Patrols spoted a lot of cats lurking around our southern tunnels. We can understand their desire to see the beauty of cave world and to test their night vision in real darkness, but they have to ask permission first. Now it's better for them to leave.

ok, we have to pick a scoring system.

here are your options:

A - 'the ante' (with placement points, wizard value based on rank)
this would mean that tibbs, king david, nerull, and ausaitis are worth 2 points each, crvjr worth 1, and evil roc worth 5. wizards lose that amount if they are killed, and who kills them gains that amount. points are also distributed according to where you finish (7, 4, 3, -3, -5, -6)

B - bounty hunter (without placement points)
- tibbs 100 (-10) = 5 pts
evil roc 191 (+91) = 12 pts
king david 100 (-10) = 5 pts
crvjr 67 (-43) = 3 pts
nerull 104 (-6) = 5 pts
ausaitis 100 (-10) = 5 pts
------------------------------------------
662 pts total / 110 avg
this means that there are no points distributed according to where one places, and all points are determined by who you kill and if you are killed. as shown in the chart, crvjr is worth 3, evil roc is worth 12, and everyone else 5.

C - bounty hunter (as 'B' above, but WITH placement points in addition to the kill bonus)
6 player game placement points: 7 / 4 / 3 / -3 / -5 / -6
as shown in the chart, crvjr is worth 3, evil roc is worth 12, and everyone else 5.

please vote as you log your next turn (or earlier), and vote a b or c. in case of a tie, I will cast the tie breaking vote.

A curious war has been declared upon us. Curious, in the sense that it can't possibly come to any good for the "dragon" that declared it upon us, and no good, for I fear that she has also killed two of our troops today, with great speed both above and underground, and yet she moves so far from her capital even as she would pretend to sneak a surprise against my own. A bold tactic. What will come of it? Surely we won't accept her slaying of our troops? Of course not. Yet, we'll allow ourselves to be intrigued by her theater for the time being.

TS

PS: Jeeze, can abstain from this vote??? In truth, I haven't taken the time to try to figure out the scoring system, and would rather leave it to more mathematically-inclined minds.

If I am forced to choose, I'm afraid I'd have to do so by name only, and in that case it's a tie between "the ante" and "the bounty hunter". My enjoyment of poker says "the ante", but "the bounty hunter" sounds more like something I'd be inclined toward, and so perhaps the mathematically inclined can determine whether or not that adds up to option "C" or whether a majority of 51 percent is needed to decide the vote, in which case I guess mine would be annulled.

In any case, I won't raise an objection as to which option is democratically or theocratically chosen, though in real-life politics I of course will always speak my mind.

Her armies are going to rot under my thick spider webs, and she herself will be turned into Points in just a few days time. Run Sam, Run!!!
