Hi,

Didn't you customize our wizards ?

I asked Scholar, I have Explorer.
I asked Air Specialist, I have Earth Specialist.

What do we do ?

Mab, day 1 :

Troops are exploring the starting area. Already 1 mine and 1 windmill were captured.

Did you customize the other players' wizards ?

No, as I promised I have chosen "random" values for you. In particular I have made sure that nobody has Air Sphere.

Perhaps I should add that there are some area guards on the map, some of them might be heavy and angry!

Too late for the warning strong area guards... I already saw 1 Treeman + another unit close to my wizard.

So that's what you meant by "I'm kind of selcting funny spheres for you!"...
I understood the opposite! lol

I really don't like how this game has been started... you force too many things, and that wasn't clear from the start.

Actually, I'm even thinking about asking to someone else to take my place. I've read that Nerull wanted to play the Goblins too...

I must say that I'm getting a bit worried too. I just read the other thread about the Christmas Empire Building game. If somebody gets killed by indies it can be his own mistake. I hope that was the case in the other game where Dark_Shadow died on day 6.

I would find it very annoying if my wizard would fall too indies just because of bad luck. Especially in a WL-game.

Are there other things we should definitely know about FinalBolt?

posted 01-07-05 09:08 AM EDT (US)     8 / 194
It is hard to say if it was my own fault, that I got killed. My wizard was running along with a catmaster and my hero. I hadnīt come around to scout to the southwest and I think the indies came from there.

It was a harverster and 2 other Shadowdemon units and that is a pretty tough stack to meet on day 6. So play with that in mind.

I don't know what all you expect from me!? This is a random map, has anybody heard that a random map is balanced or save for attacking Indies? I not! - Dark Shadow, I had offered to restart the first map because of the Indies and nobody was interested; later on I also made it clear that these "bugs" from the random generation have been removed for the current version 2. So my continuous impression is that I am speaking against a wall. I am certainly not willing to guarantee you a risk free game!

Additional note is that some Indies will spawn in a later time of the game, even dangerous ones.

If the map isn't balanced, then why do you force to play it wl ?

I don't force anyone. The game was originally declared WL, and it was the wish of Bruce to keep it so. I strongly suggest that people who don't want to take up the challenge of a surprise shouldn't sign up to random maps. Sorry! - Now please try to make it a less diffcult experience!

---------
I may also cite from Evil Roc's map service announcement:

"Note that map still will not be idealy balanced - it is a random map after all."

So all what some people speak about "balanced random maps" is wishful thinking only.

Hi Final Bolt....I wasnīt "shooting" at you - I think itīs great that your are willing to offer time on a map like that. I was just responding on LordtheRonīs question about wether I was playing risky or not

Hope you didnīt get it the wrong way, īcause that wasnīt the intention

Yaka day 1

My wimpy bunch of warriors (including me) had a very hard time beating a few wimpy Halflings and Humans. Luckily we DID succeed but not without losses. I noticed kinda late that Kaskar isn't a flying hero.

---

I just played the first turn and I say we play a few more turns to see how this goes before we judge any further.

posted 01-08-05 08:10 AM EDT (US)     15 / 194
Thanks DS, sure, you were not shooting at me, and I didn't think it either. Sorry for my bad temper, but I don't like it if people don't read what I say and later on start complaining. It tends to be so fruitless and time consuming.

I hope you people here can organize yourself because I am not the moderator here. It is completely players' business to deal with everything.

Cheers! And hopefully have fun!

Julia, day 1

A power node lies nearby, and I will join Avernus in trying to capture it for myself. Meanwhile my scouts gather resources.

----------------

So. I am supposed to send my turn to Chascal, but he is not interested in playing. Do we look for a sub?

Thanks for setting up the map, FinalBolt.

-----------

Added 10 jan.

Turn now sent to Sfriese. FinalBolt, would you be kind enough to add his e-mail in the introductory message. Tx.

Welcome to the game, Sfriese.

My scouts have learned the hard way that safety lies in numbers. A glade runner and a swordsman were ambushed and slain. At least the runner is avenged.

I have captured an air node. Not ideal, but useful to speed up my research.

Sahira,

A siege on a dungeon was planned today.....the attack was not the most succesful I have made, but I was rewarded with some weird looking hostages.

Again I got personnally involved in a camp site investigation, but this time I didn't fight. I got hit by a strange weapon which trow me a iceball that freezed me for the entire battle (2 rounds). Unfortunatly, again the object found was not that useful...

I hope for best luck with Spirit fo order and and request to hunt down infidels !

Not much accomplished today. My scouts found two hostile raiding parties that they had to retreat from, and one lightly guarded furnace, that given the state of my treasury, is my first priority.

Hundreds of elves gathered around the hilltop of Faraway, and there founded a new community. We elves will spend the next 800 years building it into a city to be remembered eternal.
