The original players involved on the game discussed the settings for the map, they decided that the race and magic spheres of each one would be selected by the adversaries. That's the reason of the strange combos.
There are MANY independents on map (althought most bands are relatively weak). Some of them are set to patrol so better do not leave your wizard alone in his tower without bodyguards.
