Looking interested around in this world. What to do in this icy stone desert? Finally trottled down the road.

We were surprised by another hero joining us. Honestly, he looks a bit deranged but we didn't mention it and hope the best. A windmill and a mine will add to our income.

Our way to the creek was long, but once you reach there you find nice things! Our front troops reported a foul stench coming over the creek from Nekron's side. So we conclude he must have acquired a city there in his silent ways. But nothing can ultimately hide from the clear light that Anon's heavenly warriors spread!

One of Anon's "heavenly troops" has lost his halo and is now slumming with a vamp. I admit that his morale is terrible, but he hangs around anyway, hoping for more

And yes, before his fall from grace, he did properly surmise that we have been successful with at least one of our sieges

We are confident our abducted knight will soon return to a better path and show the vamp what a blade of steel can do! Our headquarters decided that we have too many foul creatures around and we should get rid of them!

Player's note: I did some unvoluntary move and risked to cause a restart. Nothing serious happened. I try to pay more attention.

The enemy must think that I am running a brothel! A little peeping hobbit was spying on my Vampire, perhaps to see why the Paladin stays. Well he knows now, and I think that he is too ashamed to go back home

We see Anon's aura and make plans to explore what lays beyond.

Very impressing, indeed! Doubts arise here whether the concealment system is working at all. Didn't see any true-seeing unit of yours! Could you tell me how you got hold of the hobbit? Just to add to my experiences.

Ah, that's a good explanation!

A black day in history! Nekron gathered a lot of scum and overwhelmed one of my heroes including company. We admit we didn't expect him yet. - Just wondering where all those Dark Elves come from? Should we say this workcamp down there makes the map somewhat unbalanced?

Heh, the southern campsite actually is Light Elves (Scout, Nymph, Swordsman, Archer). They are still there, as I did not want to waste troops on killing them (yet).

Some Dark Elves I started with. Others came from a different place

I have Goblins too! They are heading North even now . . .

My brave Goblins have perished, but many more are already coming to take the fallen heroes' places.

The offending Charioteer was wounded and poisoned, making his defense lower. I was able to captue a magic relay and summon a spider next to the wounded enemy. The Paladin with bad morale had enough MP to reach his former comrade. Both Archons are now in a better place.

I do not like what I see in the NW. Four powerful and fast units have crossed the river. It might be a race to see who can reach the enemy's capital first!

The race is on! Anon's forces smash through the DarkElf city with barely a scratch -- I have two days (three at most) with which to work until he reaches my capital.

The underground Goblins and their hero ambush the Dwarves and Elves and head to the surface. They mean to meet up with the DarkElves, Undead and spiders to assult Anon's capital. My hero rushes west to take out the Halfling city and its Wizard tower.

Race relations could get tricky for Anon's army should he hold only a DarkElf city. The timing will be critical . . .

I see the name Dafyth is good for an interesting match! Nekron's troops are narrowing my realm considerably. The underground village has fallen, though with heavy injuries on his hero. Nothing much new this morning! We are still wondering whether there will be an attack from Nekron or not. His troops are running this and that way. We noted though, one of his heroes has healed considerably after he was badly injured yesterday. This game is always good for a surprise!

In the West, our pioneer eagle spotted an assembly of some dangerous looking animals sailing under the Nekron hordes. We hope our motherly spiders will take good care of them!

Nekron -- Undead -- Day12

A fairly productive day, though there were some notable losses.

The feint at Anon's capital seems to have worked. I see no units coming forth to reinforce the Halflings; either out of fear or simple lack of manpower, his forces there stay put. Whichever -- I send all of my forces at the underdefended Hobbits and their big gun. They take nearly twice their number with them in deafeat, but in the end the city is mine.

Now Anon's forces are split. The attack that I feared on my capital never materialized; the lone scout that he sent has been taken out.

I hope to continue prospering in this unexpected lull. my Dark Elf brothers cry for freedom -- I shall attempt to rescue thier city.

Yes, the feint was successful. I have to remember you are a blunt liar!

As 13 seems to be our doomsday, we mobilized our forces finally to thrust back.

 Well yes, that is true. I will inform my Minister of Misinformation that he has been discovered

I see smoke rising from the Dark Elf city. Perhaps my brothers will fre themselves? I will send a small scouting expidetion that way tomorrow for a first hand look.

Anon has also sent a small scouting force out, but it was intercepted by some troops that I "forgot" to send to the Hobbit battle. A highly prized Butcher was killed, and my Bone Horror and several other Goblins are wounded nigh unto death. The Scouts dealt out much pain before they were defeated.

And now Anon sends a lone champion my way as well. She is just out of attacking range, perhaps waiting for her escort. Hmmm, I smell a trap somewhere . . .

Anon, day 14

Well, we didn't send scouts but real heavy armed combat troops! The best we had at hand, but they have failed. And we again see a deep frown on the forehead of Anon today. He seems to have sorrows. Could we not have expected more of those 2 highly decorated Charioteers? They went into battle with a DEF value of 15 and still suffered a lot of impacting poison darts! We suspect the computer has taken Nekrons side! And how stupid did they attack! They shooted arrows instead of using their good lances! - Btw, Poison Darts, they only have an attack of 9. I often wondered they seem to be more effective at times. But they should not have any hidden magical attack value, do they?

We also are surprised that our Hobbit with terrible morale is still with you after nearly 10 rounds captivity. But anyway, we now see a Dread Reaper coming up on the West front, so it seems our chances for a victory are decreasing. Chanta, the Holy One, decided to look for a crypt to silently prepare for her last battle.

Yes, Charioteers are less fearful in FC, as they choose missile over melee. Death strikes, Weaken spells and poison also drop their their DEF and RES. Every unit has a weakness, even the Archon Charioteer

Anon's Hero and escort are traped between my two armies, and only his capital remains free of my control. But I do not wish to meet Titans in battles, so I must move quickly.

Bad luck again! There was nothing of value in the crypta that Chanta visited; and a casually pressed button resulted in an unvoluntary early resurgance of Winger, our former hero. He did not even ask for money and ran off in a fierce tremor the same fate could encounter him again.

Anon is having tea now with his lifeguard and they are eagerly awaiting the visit of Nekron's garstly henchmen!

Ugh! An independant Winger is more dangerous than one with a cause. There is no telling what mischief he may bring I am forced into chasing him with my vampire and some wyverns, and corner him with my remaining cav units, but on the road he can outrun anything that I have. I suspect that this is not an "accident" at all, but a clever plan to slow down and split my forces.

Well it has worked. My army has bogged down around the hobbit city to regroup, as I try to replace my diverted forces with scrub shock troops. I have lost at least another day, and I fear Anon has several more tricks up his sleeves before all is said and done.

You meant what you said? Hmm yes, so it was nicely played maybe. I did not expect you would leave your towns unprotected. But the desperately cast Dark Woods on the road seem to give you right. - I still can't believe you leave your Wizard standing alone after all these rounds and you still have enough time to build a Monster. So your realm can't be at stake because of a Winger. He's just a nuissance. - Keep me posted what he does, would be interesting whether an Independant uses combat spells.

Now we see a honourable defilement of 3 stacks coming up shakingly the road to our capital! What is not all there! A Spider Queen, a Beetle, a Monster and various scoundrels of all races and proveniance. Even a White Priest, not to forget 2 heroes; in the rearguard a Wyvern. - I have called to lay tables for you but I'm not sure if all figures will appear for dinner!

If you see some restart messages lately it is only from technical reasons because I revisited some of our former turns.

Nekron -- Undead -- Day18

Yes, an attack of Evil Woods deflected Winger off of the road, and into the arms of my chasing Vampire. The Halfling hero now serves the greater cause, though he seems a bit unhappy

But how could have Anon known about the Evil Woods, so far from his watch towers? Grrr, there must be a concealed unit about -- perhaps a summoned fairy? I must end this war now, before I meet more unexpected events.

It looks like tomorrow is the big day. My troops have split up into racial stacks of undead, goblin and Darkelves, the best each race has to offer. Enchantments have been freely cast, and preparations for the final assult are complete. Even the hobbit has come, attended by a pair of Goblin guards to prevent him from deserting.

I see Chanta has returned, and Anon has another new champion as well. A charioteer and gleaming Archon soldiers fill his capital. As I surmised, Anon continues to be full of surprises.

Oops! What is that? A Holy Wood has sprouted in the hollow way before our capital! It seems the welcome here is not all too friendly.

Chanta has returned but she has left us and has chosen to follow the lone path of Winger. At least there is some hope she cannot be seduced. This game has some weard aspects, to say it politely. What can you do to keep a resurrected hero? We had over 250 gold at the day Chanta reappeared, and still 215 the day after. And she didn't even ask or report at the doors.

Ok, let's bring it to an end then!

Nekron -- Undead -- Epilogue

In the end my forces were nearly not enough. My reaper could not remove the holy woods with his path of decay, nor could my Evil Woods spell overwrite it. It was a forced march to the capital where all were wounded and nearly half perished. Had I come with any less then the battle would have been lost, and a much longer struggle ensued with the rebuilding of a higher resistant army of Level 3s and 4s.

As I guessed, Anon was full of surprises to the end. His summoning capacity is amazing -- Three heroes and 1 holy woods in 4 turns -- I guess he has researched to specialist II at least, which is amazing in 19 days. His ability to see deep into my territory indicates another summons earlier, and is disturbing as well.

The next to we meet on the field of battle I will have to plan much better. Too many mistakes that I made, and Anon was quick to punish each one. I consider myself very lucy to have won the round.

Thanks for a Strategic game Final Bolt! I'm open to a rematch (sides reversed) if you wish. Hopefully less restarts though

Anon - Epilogue

Thank you for the nice words, Dafyth! Realistically I'm afraid my playing is still far beyound your class. I also have seen you still had some power reserves after that last battle, although it was amazing what the holy woods did for us. - Actually I'm "angry" that it seems impossible to gain a hero from resurrection. I still don't understand why they did not list in or how you can make them list in.

Some of the points you don't see quite right though. The one hero that was left did list in from his own part, without summoning. (Those two summoned ran off.) And second, all terrain structures you can see in explored land (without unfogging), including cast woods. So there was no mysterious Fairy, although I certainly would have liked ot see it. But too much is too much.

I have very much enjoyed playing this game, and I think the experience gained is worth the 3 ladder points I own you now. I will strife to regain twice as much in the rematch!

---------
I don't know what you think of that: I'ld like to branch off the game at a certain turn to see how I'ld play along a different strategic attitude. Are you all jammed up with games now or would you like to play a branch as a non-ladder game?

Hmmm, your resurrected heroes -- are you actually approaching them (click on your wizard, and then click to the hero?) Hiring them is different than a join offer, where the hero approaches you. Ressurect is a little like "call Hero" -- you have to ask the hero, and if you don't have the right alignmnent the hero will refuse to join (like a campsite or an independent city). But with a join offer, the hero is always willing!

LOL! I totally forgot that holy/evil/poison woods were considered structures Let me tell you, it freaked me out that when you commented on something that I didn't think you could see -- I was sure that you had somehow slipped a spy by me

I think that I have a few too many games going on for experiment turns (I just challanged TZ for the championship) but I'll honor our rematch clause (sides switched) as soon as you wish.

However, if there was a specific turn that you wish to explore, then go ahead and send it, and we can go at least a few days into it to see if you are finding what you're looking for.

Thanks again for a fun game!

posted 08-27-03 03:15 AM EDT (US)     40 / 40
You are right, I was not approaching them, stupid me! I assumed they would report as the normal hero emergences.

Ok, we will leave it then as it is and I will eventually approach you for a rematch. Wish you good luck for your champion challenge! And many thanks for the many lessions of this game!
