USS Drow captain's log, day 2
Yarrr! Today we sighted two towns ripe fer the plunderin'. But when we gets close, we see they're our kind of folk. Sara's in a good mood, so she says maybe we won't hurt 'em. Then the scurvy dogs what runs the place asks for 300 gold to hand over the city! If we had that kind of gold, we could retire to the moon! Or at least spend it on something better than the alleigance of some spidery wench and her pointy-eared stooges.
So, it was back to plan A (if it moves, kill it, if not, loot it.) Looking forward to putting plan A into effect in new lands in the days to come. Turn sent

USS Drow captain's log day 3
We had just put back out to see when - avast! Highmen sighted off the port bow. Should we sack the mainland and loot their shiny 4 hex city, or slink off in search of easier prey?

FOF! (Fear Our Frog!) Minor raids harassing some landlubbers. Steady progress in other theatres. Compared to yesterday, this feels like smooth sailing.

Yarr! Highmen be everywhere on the mainland. The most we can do is raid some of their little cities. The scurvy landlubbers haven't ventured onto the high seas. We bet they knows if they set foot off their island we'll send 'em to Davy Jones' locker.
We also did some other stuff we can't talk about. Turn sent!

USS Drow captain's log day 7
Dawn breaks (finally) over the smoldering cities of our enemies. But we still run from the vast armies of the Highmen. No sign of the goblins.

USS Drow captain's log, day 8
Not much happened today, so perhaps we'll sing an old sea shanty...
Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me
We pillage, we plunder, we rifle and loot
Drink up me hearties, yo ho
We kidnap and ravage and don't give a hoot
Drink up me hearties, yo ho
Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me
We extort, we pilfer, we filch and sack
Drink up me hearties, yo ho
Maraud and embezzle and even high-jack
Drink up me hearties yo ho
Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me...
come on, ye all be knowin' the words, ye lily-livered scum!

USS Drow captain's log day 9
The goblins are being hospitable indeed, even emptying their own ships to make room for our "diplomatic entourage." However, when our leader tried to board she was shot by an unmanned ballista! Perhaps this is why the goblins abandoned ship - it was haunted! We send the ghost ships to the bottom. Now if we can track down the orcish navy and deal with them, we'll rule the high seas.
It occurs to us to stop and thank the goblins, but there appears to be a large army of dwarves that's anxious to give them an equally warm welcome. We think we'd be committing a faux pas by getting in the way. We'll just leave them alone together.

I don't know how bad these mistakes of yours were, but I don't think there was much you could do under the circumstances. I got lucky with spells and went all-out to get water walking; if you didn't have it by turn 9, your leader wouldn't have saved you. And since my heroes effectively got a double move there was just no escape.
I don't think I've seen an endgame quite like this in AoW1. It seemed like an entertaining twist from my perspective, but I figure it must be a least a little bit annoying to lose this way. Thanks for being such a good sport!
On the other hand, the goblins could just consider themselves lucky that they didn't live to see the world laid waste by wraiths...that walk on water! Actually, I'm kind of sad we missed out on that, it would have been quite a sight.
Good game, looking forward to meeting you in the tournament...
