After both getting pasted by AIs in two consecutive Random XL games, another battle is in order. A slightly modified setting was chosen:
XL empire builder map with fairly standard races, excluding Archons, Undead, Syrons, Shadow Deamons and Frostlings as well as Wasteland and Snow terrains. 4 AI players set to Lord.

Hiranu- Phobius of the Humans
Ellumesh- Mab of the Goblins

Mab, Days 40-42

The first wave has climbed to the surface. Others will follow these scouts soon enough as the goblin warmachine is grinding out warriors worthy of the great goblin nation...

Making a lot of progress against Ke-Nan, feeling a lot better about that problem.

Lot of movement, still cleaning up the surface.

I see a spy from the goblins in the north, but he's keeping his distance.

Mab, Days to-49

Phobius has expanded quite nicely... I don not like what I´m seeing at all, but concentrate on Ke-Nan instead of bemoaning my ineptitude to surface earlier...

Hoepfuly I was able to buy the quest city from my ally. We'll see. It would have been such an easy quest, but my ally got there first.

Got some building resources.

Took out the nomads, and am casting around for another plan

Mab, Days 50-53

Phobius has done some serious landgrabs all around, but I´m undaunted. I have grown hale and strong below the ground, and will roam far to find lands to conquer...

Shuffling forces around, and exploring some underground.

Just more walking, and a little diplomacy.

Mab, Days 54-55

The Phobian Empire has declared war on goblindom... a grave mistake. goblin troops are many and well postioned, and the first wave of strikes bags many structures and Ke-Nan´s former capital.

My war machine is dishing out new troops in huge amounts, and Phobius will pay the price for his aggression...

I lost kenan's former capital, which means I will have to make do with the 3 capitals I have left. We'll see what happens next.

Mab, Day 56

Already enemy Air Galleys are swooping in. I prepare my defences...

Unfortunately there is much ground to cover to get all my forces in place, though they are getting good practice picking off stray patrols.

Mab, to Day 60

The war is running rather unfortunately. Should have stuck to Plan B...

A minor invasion is coming from the north, I have a baloon-full going up to meet it. My two local baloons are claerling the surface before going down, my other baloon with the two high level heros is still several days out, and the hero group in the underground seems to be making less progress than I'd like. The flock of bats though is scarfing up resources quite nicely.

Mab, to Day 63

Losses are too high and the foe is many. Still, the underground remains secure. We shall not be moved!

Human, Day 65

And finally, it all comes to an end. One balloon full to uncork the passageway down near the enemy capital, and another to come through and desposit troops in striking range. And so the other two baloons coming to the other entrance were unneeded.

Thank for an interesting game. Mab is hard to play under the best of circumstances, and so far I've been betrayed every time in empire building games by thinking in terms of Civ III and waning to build more settlements. Welcome to the club.

What shall we play next?

Well, my starting position was pretty ideal and in the end let to my downfall as it was just so convenient to fortify a large cave with only two exits. I built seven additional cities down there.

Being Mab cancelled that advantage rather nicely, not only does Technophobe suck in itself, it also prevents one from acquiring Constructor. Top prod was 55, I had to hurry priests all the time, took 3 turns for a Troll, and 6 for a Karagh (didn´t bother to try).

Seems I´ll have to take a more aggressive approach!

What next? I liked the Empire Builder approach, perhaps a fight with two AIs on a large map?

You lost, we can go with your preferences. Do you want me to generate it or will you?

I´ll do the setup. You should have an email in your inbox pretty soon...
