Oh dear, it started so well with all these new units we enlisted...and then this terrible battle where all that could possible go wrong went wrong

It doesn´t throw us back really but some nice units bit the dust, one of them a key figure

there were multiple restarts on consecutive turns?
When i last opened the save to play it then send it, it told me right at the start of the turn that restarted the turn and the same thing happened in GM4 on the last turn or the second last.

Hi, there are several technical reasons for restart messages. E.g. when you reinstalled your sytem, play your games at different computer (alternating)...
So maybe you did any such thing.

OK, then this is the explanation because then you deleted the tracking file as well.
you should never clear the complete folder but each game seperately.

Well, had we had one single unit more with some more movepoints, then this game might have been over now.

So we´re just standing right infront of our opponents poorly defended (but still probably strong enough to block the few units of mine that still had enough movement to attack ) Capitol with a huge army, his (or maybe one of his...) general(s) quite far away and await A´shir´s defensive counteractions tonight.

Hopefully his last night but I have no clue what aces he might hold

Maybe I should have dared to attack today with the few troops - guess it was a 50:50 chance to win the battle.

We´ll see.

my bird summon took his wizard tower, i razed my own tower. In the consecutive turn he killed my wizard and it respawned. he has a wizard tower at in his future, but it isnt in this incarnation or lifetime.

hehe, well, I have to admit the current ongoings in the game make me look like the idiot of the day

Let me summarize what happened:

Clever me thought he was smarter than the rest of the world and developed a genius plan including ingenius use of an incarnate who took control of a goblin beetle who again was able to dig through the tunnels system in the north of the map and thus bring my giant army right in front of his capitol.

And what should I say - had I attacked yesterday with high risk, I had probably lost.

So what did A´shir do? The bastard razed his Capitol and took my UNDEFENDED Capitol!!! dammn!!! with a Zephir bird that seemingly came from out of nowhere
So I killed his Wizard today only to watch him come back in my OWN Capitol, arrrgh!!

Well, the only positive thing is that it appears to me as if on the long run it doesn´t look that bad for us for my forces seem to be stronger than A´shirs but we have to be more careful from now on!

Something like this must not happen again!!

i attacked his stack of doom with my little mobile circus in hopes they would attack and kill his wizard and win the game for me as that was i felt the only option and chance i had at this point of the game.

Depending on how fast he can get back to his tower morgul can very likely put an end to the feuding.

Ne-Khan, day 24

A´shir chose a daring course today...he attacked my great army consiting of various powerful units like gold-medal strangler, entanglers, possessers and powerful heroes in the hopes to set the killing blow to my accompanying Wizard.
And what should I say - he was right to do it, for it seemed to be his only possible chance left at this point of time. To land the lucky killing blow on my wizard and thus win the game fast and brutal.
Well, unfortunaltely (for him) that blow never came...

For sure, my losses would have been higher had I attacked him the next turn in his defensive position on the tower guard but it probably wouldn´t have ended that different.

11 : 1 killed units - that´s the odds of that dirty battle. I wouldn´t have dared fortelling it that drastical but it doesn´t matter anyway.

It seems it´s just a matter of time now until we reach our own (former ) Tower where his majesty probably sits, producing some shooters and awaits us.

If nothing drastical happens, it should be a matter of some days now to set the killing blow (at least that´s what I hope...)

A´shir has finally been sent to the void and Ne-Khan retook his tower

You really made me nervous with your clever counterstrike when I was so close to kill your wizard and you took my own tower one turn earlier...

But it doesn´t matter anymore now since I got you anyway

Thanks for the game, it was a good match!

I think key for winning was my decision to attack the prison which held a hero, an incarnate and a sorceress - three extremely powerful units that enabled me to proceed fast and brutal and gain some powerful units in the process.

So at least I won one game - so I can calm down a bit

Morgul, congratulations with the victory. This should put some of the pressure off for you. Did you have a strategy before you started?

I have got the impression my competitors really knew what they were doing and i think they paid a lot more attention to building their armies, because i kept bleeding 1-2 units every fight against indies.
In my first loss against lordduck i didnt know where he could possibly come from as i didn't check out the maps in the editor.

I probably wont be around next year
i cant predict those things.

Yes, I think Spiceant is right in one thing - I payed much attention on not losing valuable units but improving their level and giving them good enchantments and gaining new, powerful units.
I think that´s generally key in most games.

And regarding Swoltes question whether I had a strategy before I started: Nope (as the dogma in my footnote says: Planning replaces happenstance by error )

Of course I looked into the map prior to playing but I haven´t had the time (and motivation ) to check all three maps so detailed... it was more superficial and mainly in my starting area.
After several turns I figured out that I was moving around without a real target so I checked the map again in the editor and - maybe destiny guided me - I looked into this fortress and saw that it´s holds a hero, an incarnate and a sorceress and from that point on, indeed a strategy formed.
Because I knew, there was a giant beetle not too far from the earth tiles separating both realms from eachother in the north of the map so I planned to possess the beetle, dig through and surprise A`shir from the north.

And it had worked perfectly had he not taken my Tower one turn before I killed his wizard.
