First stab at defending the pointy hat...

We're playing on Creek of Aberil, slightly modified from Dafyth's modified version... (I forget who originally designed it...whoever it is gets kudos -- it's a really nice map).

Archons: Evil Roc
Undead: JWorth

Call hero is permitted (though perhaps a waste of time...who knows?). I apologize in advance for my upcoming periods of slow play.

Dafyth has graciously agreed to set up the game and send out turn one to Evil Roc. Thanks!

The game has been sent to Evil Roc to begin. Best of luck to both deserving players!

Anon Day 1.

Soldiers under white banners left their camps. All day they marched along the road and reached the crossroads at sunset. There they will spend the night and then continue executing orders of white tower.

Muahahahahah.... Death stalks the land once again....

Still stalking about. I think I'll concentrate my efforts in the northeast ...

Restart (by arrangement with Evil Roc, because I made a mindless mistake -- thanks)

Anon Day 3.

Capturing a halfling town turned to be a pain. I wanted to kill wounded sheriff with my hero, but Chanta missed all the time and left battlefield with two hps and with only 5 experience points. Will see if tommorow brings better news.

EDIT: Of course it is day 3.

(I think the previous post should have been titled "Anon, day 3" -- if that's not right, we have problems, because I definitely just played my third turn).

Nekron, day 3.
Hmm...dubious rumours on the wind of a big fight up north at the halfling city. I dispatch some outriders to see if there's any truth to them, while my stolid footsoldiers continue their slow, but steady, march to conquest.

Turn sent.

Anon Day 4.

Today Chanta and her faithful followers explored an ancient ruin. It was defended by group of renegade archons, with Pegasus Rider as their leader. The battle was successful - no losses and only one soldier wounded. Chanta's strikes were more accurate this time and she got enough experience to reach level 2.

Nekron, day 4.
More reports, all of them of doubtful authenticity , come out of the north. I'd like to meet this Chanta someday... the skull on my royal staff needs replacing...

Meanwhile, still plodding along.

Anon Day 5.

Today my scouts reached both bridges - in the north and in the south. Boths are already claimed by servants of Necron, but it won't be so in a couple of days.

Your wish of meeting with chanta will be granted some day, but circumstances of this meeting will be quite different from what you desire.

Nekron, day 5.
Everything is much clearer now.
In the north, I curse my slowfooted army -- Anon's speedy forces have stolen a march on us, and it appears that I cannot prevent them from crossing the river. I'll have to deal with them closer to home than I'd originally hoped.
In the south, on the other hand, my troops turn out to be just quick enough, and they secure the elven fortress, just under the noses of a mob of archon scrubs, led by Anon himself.
Hmm...I've seen this pattern before, but from the other side ...
On both fronts, it will be interesting to see how things develop over the next few days.
Turn sent.

ps -- my playing pace is probably going to slow down some over the next couple of weeks, but I'll do my best to keep up.

Anon day 6.

Well, with arrival of bone horror I considered opposing enemy in the south to dangerous. Army marched back ro my lands where more reinforcements will be ready.

As a compensation I captured a dark elven town in the north.

Nekron, day 6.
I decide that more recruiting is called for before I challenge Anon to a standup fight. Seargeants are sent throughout the land, offering a pint of rum and a state-supplied burial to all who will join...

Anon Day 7.

Armies of darkness are numerous. Seems that vampires were very busy last few days. I have to build more powerful defence now. Attacking is impossible.

Nekron, day 7.
Recruiting today wasn't so successful -- lost a couple of scrubs to some angry monks. Oh well. Still waiting for the archons to show themselves in force... I send out some butchers to carve up a prisoner on the road to the dark elven fortress. Perhaps his screams will conjure up some excitement for my troops?

Anon Day 8.

Glade runner stole the mine from undead today. They surely will take it back, but if Necron has same problems with gold as I have (and he has actualy much more low level troops, due to vampire activity) it probably hurted him.

My own followers are not just siting and waiting too. A new plan is being carried out.

Gladerunners...sigh...Okay, I'll bite. The mine is back in undead hands. This could get troublesome, however.

Elsewhere, troops slowly shuffle back and forth . Rumors are circulating of activity on the archon side of the river.

Anon Day 9.

Goblin grunt was lsot in our forests, but local hobbits helped him in their fashion.

Glade runner still evades capture, but has found nothing to steal today. Hope tommorow will be more productive.

Nekron, day 9.
I should have warned that goblin not to wander into the woods. My next scout has strict instructions to stick to the road , from which he has a nice view of the lawless rogues who despatched his companion. Once I'm in charge, I may just have to outlaw rogues -- or maybe I'll simply have halflings banned completely...

Lots of Archon maneuvers across the river this turn -- looks like both sides are settling in for a long fight.

Extensive (and timewasting) searches have left me convinced that the gladrunner withdrew to friendlier territory. We'll see...

Time to go back on the offensive -- grabbed a tower, relay, and windmill in the east, and took care of the rogue problem, for the moment (one of them was convinced to see the error of his ways, though now he doesn't seem very happy in my employ... may have to make him stand in the front line in the next big fight...).
Elsewhere, things are still quiet, though Anon is gathering an impressive army in the west. I move to secure the frontier towers and await the next Archon move.

Turn sent.

Anon Day 11.

Storm is coming. Now all soldiers of the light must be brave and their hands must be firm. The future of free nations will be decided tommorow.

Nekron, day 11.
What's this? Anon has left his capital, leaving the garrison in Astori without magic support. I order an all-out assault, 18 units against 9. Fortune smiles, and the undead numbers are too great for the mixed force of eagle riders, archers, priests, and an avenger who guard the walls -- the dark elf citadel falls to its proper owners, at the cost of my western vampire (who will be missed) and an archer. But wait... Rather than the rapterous greeting I had counted upon, my forces are met only by the sounds of surly halfling shopkeepers slamming down the shutters to their stores. Blast. The dark elves are no more. Anon will pay for this outrage...

In the east, we chase down a unicorn with attempted to dash behind our advancing army, and welcome (and seduce) some wandering infidels into the army of darkness. Hmm...I wonder if some magic spirit has ordered them slain? Perhaps I'll give them an escort to some place of safety...

So this ends. I surrender.

No chance to defeat all these endless hordes of seduced warriors. Vampire(s) had done this game.

I agree to rematch, but would like to put it off for a couple of weeks. Need some time to prepare, although I'm not sure my preparations will help me

Thanks for a really entertaining match, Evil Roc. That was fun.

Here's hoping that you don't have the same luck with your vampires in the rematch that I did in this run... fortune certainly smiled on the seduction campaign...
