First of all thank you The_Stranger for the comments. I know you have your own mod which you have worked hard on, so this is very thoughtful and gracious for you make a post here about mine.
As to some specifics...
Some of the warlord units do have very heavy animations, and I'm not surprised that someone might have the opinion that they feel they are a bit out of place. To some extent I felt the same when adding them. In fact, there were some units which had been in my mod but were later removed for reasons such as this. However, I did end up using a few warlord units because basically I just like them and think they are cool.
I was actually quite surprised when in a game the other night one of the warlord units (a black knight) seemed to be a favorite of the guys I was playing with. One player made the comment that he thought another player was purposefully seeking out black knights to kill just so he could watch them go flying off their horses, lol.
So basically what fits and what doesn't is very much an individual thing. I definately made a big effort to make units and graphics feel as if they belong in the game, but I accept that not everyone will feel that way.
For anyone who read the documentation with this mod you will see that I very much give credit to Dhuval and PawelS for the many units I used which they provided. However, it's certainly worth repeating, so let me again thank both of them as well as HamletG for all the great stuff they have provided to modders like myself. I'd like to add an additional thanks to PawelS for helping me by resizing some of his units. Thanks a lot guys Tearions asks, why are there Mechas?
Good question, hehe. I assume by asking it you feel that a unit like a Mech Warrior doesn't really belong in a game such as this, and I wouldn't disagree. However, I don't think it is all that uncommon for games to have special "easter eggs" if you will, that may seem out of place. An example might be some dungeon game which has a secret level with big Chickens carrying machine guns, lol. This is what the mech warrior is, just a little surprise that may appear now and then. I think for many players who find one they will be able to put aside the fact that it may not really belong in the game. And for the fundamentalists who feel strongly that something like this should never appear...well let's face it, this type of player will never like this mod anyway because it's much too different than the normal game.
As to the warcraft units, well I'm not sure what the rules are on explaining things like this, so if a moderator ends up deleting this I understand.
I found a program on the internet called warcraft 3 viewer. it allows you to look at all the units in the game from any angle or depth. As you may know warcraft doesn't use sprites but has full 3d models. However with this program I was able to make bmps of units which I then converted into shadow magic ilb files. I will say though that was a very time consuming and tedious task.
Now the civ units I converted on the other hand were not nearly as difficult. I got to the point where I could have a civ unit converted to ILB format in like 20 minutes or so. More time than this was spent of course coloring and setting up the units, but that's the fun part, so the time spent there is no biggy. Finally let me just say that after working on this mod for such a long period of time I am just happy it's now available to others and at least some people are downloading it. However, I will admit that it's nice to get a comment or two as well. Thanks.
