WHY?
I had to have some relaxed mapmaking on something that would be completely Swolte's work, after a year of designing and frantic teamwork on the v1.4 patch! I didn't feel like a full XXL sequel called 'Return of the ShadowGod' to Drums of Death, so this might be a small appetizer!

FOR WHO?
This is strictly a multiplayer map. It can be played pbem as well as online.

When you play it online, I recommend the following rules to be active:
- Battle against the Greater Demon can be TC
- Battle against any of the four independent great cities in the underground (those with a tower) can be TC.

It's clearly NOT a Single Player map: the AI is very slow and poses no threat because I wanted people to play around with a lot of the new units through recruitment sites and the tough defenders.

BALANCED?
Everything is fixed. DO NOT try and customize the Wizards yourself (I know some online players go straight into spasms), it can create serious unbalances!

It's assymetrical and thus, balance also depends on the players seeing the strengths and weaknesses every Wizard has. Some regard getting the Key, geographical location, starting strength, skills and others potential exploration choices or access to resources!. Simply looking in the editor won't help you much evaluating this.

I would accept any ladder challenge playing the last choice.

DIPLOMACY?
Map is designed with everybody at War. Storywise, nobody should like eachother and everybody has their own motives. Of course, diplomacy and backstabbing are part of this game, so everything is allowed! As long as you remember that there can only be ONE winner...

SKILL REQUIRED?
Yes, yes and yes...
As usual with Swoltmaps, the world is alive and animals and thugs will roam the lands, attacking all that is undefended and weak.
Traveling alone can be dangerous!

Also, there are a lot of targets, some of which may be way over the top at the early stages. Heed the warnings and you can blame it all on yourself...
You start off pretty weak and slow (to prevent early rushes), so you may have to get used to that as well.

STORY
--------------------------------------------
Many, many years ago there was a war called the Fight for Light. The free races of the world united to battle a great evil that was threatening all of Ertria and beyond. They called it, The ShadowGod, as all lands were enveloped in a thick darkness. The living suffered as a paralyzing fear struck. A fear that went deep into the hearts and souls of the living.

After many lives lost and Ertria in ruin, the ShadowGod was defeated and the Allience prevailed. The free races convened and founded the Counsil of Light. They built a prison they called Kharzul where the ShadowGod would be locked from exerting it's dark influence.
Except for the relatively new Emperor Purius, representive of Aedora, no one wanted the responsibility of keeping the Key of Kharzul safe. Despite protests, it was decided in secret by the 'Counsil of Light' that it would be best kept at a desolate island in an unknown realm, inhabited by a terrible demon that served no one.

Every century, one of the Wizards would camp outside the realm and check the area. Recently, it was old Boldirs task to do the watch. The Dwarf always regarded these trips as a nice outing.

Yet, in the south an old evil from the legendary war survided and gained power and information. One of the ShadowGods' demon servants, Da'zuul, is ready to liberate his master and get the Key of Kharzul. It was said the Dark Lord could still speak to him...

In Aedora, however, Emperor Purius has grown allpowerful, expanding his realm far beyond Eregion. All diplomatic relations with the Counsil of Light were broken and his mistrust of the 'unpure' races, led him to the strong belief that the Key of Kharzul must be kept where it is safest: Eregion. He sent his daughter Prescilla and his best General, Titiaan, to quest for this Key. The one that would bring it back, could call themselves the rightful heir to his throne. It also was a solution to some internal friction that existed after Stefanus, Purius' favourite son and heir to be, openly rebelled against him.

And so it happened that four Wizards arrived at cities close to the Island. All with different interests and motivations. Whether the Key will be taken, remains to be seen, but a clash is inevitable...
---------------------------------------------

IMPORTANT: The map has a special condition that he who brings the Key to one of the four Giant Gates wins!!
